The Oak Leafs are excited to announce that Carter Hobbs has been added to our staff as an Assistant Coach. Carter played four seasons with the Oak Leafs, graduating in 2020, before continuing his career with the MN Blue Ox (USPHL Premier) for two seasons. He most recently completed a successful ACHA Division I college hockey career at Purdue University Northwest.

Oak Leafs Head Coach Scott Long on Hobbs:

“We’re thrilled to welcome Carter back to the Leafs. He’s a former player, team captain, and without question one of the best leaders and teammates I’ve coached. Personally, he’s remembered as the kind of role model with qualities you hope your own child grows up to emulate. When he became available, it was an opportunity we couldn’t resist. Our players are extremely fortunate to have someone with his experience, leadership, and passion helping guide them moving forward.”

Hobbs on joining the staff:

“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to coach in such a great organization. I can’t wait to share my knowledge and experience with the team.”

From Oak Leaf captain to college hockey veteran, Carter brings valuable experience and leadership back to the program where it all started. Welcome back, Coach Hobbs!

Today, the Des Moines Oak Leafs pause to observe Memorial Day. We join our community in remembering the brave servicemen and servicewomen who gave their lives to protect our freedom.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the families of the fallen and to all veterans and active-duty military members for their selflessness and courage.

Wishing everyone in Iowa and across the nation a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.
