Madison River Outfitters

Madison River Outfitters Outfitting for the sport of fly fishing since 1981. Authorized guided trips in Montana and YNP In 1981 Brad opened Madison River Outfitters.

In 1978 Brad Richey, the owner and outfitter of Madison River Outfitters, made his way to West Yellowstone towing a Lavro boat behind his old Chevy pickup. He began his guiding career at Bud Lilly’s that summer, then spent the next two years managing another shop in town. As a full time guide, Brad spent his days on the river with clients while the shop was kept open by a single shop employee. As

time went on the shop flourished – new employees were hired, additional guides joined the team, and eventually the little log cabin that housed the shop was moved to its current location where it was added on to. Brad continued to guide until the early 2000’s when he transitioned from guiding to running the shop and outfitting business full time, which he continues to do to this day. Today Madison River Outfitters is one of the largest full service fly fishing shops in West Yellowstone. Our fly shop offers you everything you need to get out and fish the rivers and lakes in Montana and Yellowstone National Park. WE OFFER THE FOLLOWING SERVICES

No deterrent has as good of a record in grizzly country as bear spray. But if you're counting on it to save your life, you need to know how to use it—and most hikers don't.

MRO Featured Guide of the week - Tyler Amory

Tyler grew up in Meadville, Pennsylvania. He was introduced to fly tying at age 8, and fly fishing at age 10 by his great grandfather. Consequentially, his wading boots have been wet ever since. He moved to West Yellowstone at age 22 to work in the shop at MRO, and spent all of his free time figuring out the Madison and surrounding waters. Tyler's fun loving and easy going approach to fly fishing make him an excellent teacher and guide, guaranteeing a great day on the water.

MRO Featured Guide of the week. Hugh is originally from Asheville, NC, where he grew up fishing tiny mountain laurel tunnels for native brook trout and Tennessee tailwaters for wily east coast browns. He moved to West Yellowstone in 2023 to work in the shop and immediately started exploring and learning the Greater Yellowstone Area. On his days off, you can find him scoping out dry fly flats for rising trout. His fish-hound personality is sure to provide a fun and informative day on the river!
