Salmon flies on the Madison. Lots of nymphs along the banks below Lyons. Some shucks on the rocks and a few adults in the grass. Not many flying not much interest from the fish. Maybe lower down by Ruby and Macatee would be better for the big bug.

Lots of caddis hatching on the Madison right now. Good sized rainbows and browns along the banks.

Very nice day on the Firehole river, there were several different types of caddis, a few big PMD’s, and a massive BWO spinner fall. Did a tan Elk hair and a BWO dropper. Easy to see and they liked both flies.

A common question we get from people who are new to fly fishing is “what do you do with the fish you catch” So we tell them about handling the fish for a good picture and then how to release them back into the river.

I did this all the time after reading Charlie Brooks books. It helped me learn about what was in the rivers and what insects were more active. Today it was green drake nymphs, olive caddis larva, lots of small baetis. The fish liked big Hares Ears and large olive serendipity nymphs.
