Denny & Kathy Crook from Knoxville IA came to fish today at the West Union Golf Course. Denny told Rod Marlett, "What a great addition to our trout fishing experience in Fayette County in NE Iowa." With an artificial lure Denny caught one of the natural regeneration Brown Trout out at Otter Creek. The creek has both rainbow and brown trout.

As many of you have heard the City of West Union had the opportunity to purchase the West Union Golf Course and is planning to open to the public this summer for golfing with the potential of many other future recreational activities still being considered. While nobody knows what the long-term future holds for the golf course, the city has decided to take advantage of this current windfall of having one of the oldest and most challenging golf courses in Northeast Iowa.

In late summer of 1930, 59 acres of land were purchased for $5,900. Since 1931, when play started, this has been the site of the West Union Golf Course. The wagon bridge was originally constructed in 1941 across Otter Creek. E. C. Johnson lost a finger in an accident during its construction. The club has survived The Great Depression, Floods, Drought, and countless other hardships. Thru all that, the West Union Golf Course will be celebrating its 90th year of play in 2021.

As we start to put yet another year of extraordinary challenges behind us, we need to think about all the great things that golf can do for your physical health and mental well-being. Golf is a great exercise that people of all ages can participate in. It can lower your blood pressure, help you sleep better and lessen anxiety. After the last year, we can all benefit from that. Remember: Even a bad day golfing can still be a beautiful couple of hours spent outside surrounded by nature.

The City will be offering both daily fee and yearly passes for the 2021 golf season. While no dates have been set, as of now, the City is hoping to have a couple tournaments and some fun evening events this next year.

The City will try and update the public as things progress, but if you have any questions or ideas about the golf course, please call City Hall and we will do our best to answer all of your questions or direct you to someone that may be able to help.

The City feels the golf course can be a huge amenity for West Union and to be part of a gateway to recreation utilizing our many outdoor resources. With the support of the community in conjunction with local businesses, the City feels that the West Union Golf Course can be enjoyed by many people.

Our yearly rates for 2021 are as follows:
Daily fee:
$10 for 9 holes.
$20 for all day play.

Yearly golf pass:
$300 for an individual.
$400 for a family.
$150 for full time college student 18 +.
$100 for High school students.
13 & under free with paid player or pass holder.

If a family pass is purchased it would cover all college, high school and younger players.

Current members at another course:
Do you want to have a home course that you can run out and just play a few holes from time to time, or bring a couple of friends out?
Individuals can join for $200 and families for $250.

Cart Shed Rental:
$100 for gas shed.
$150 for Electric shed.

At present we do not have any rental carts for players to use so the public will need to walk, bring their own cart or borrow from a friend.
