DID YOU KNOW? Catfish have taste buds on the outside of their bodies.

Unlike humans, whose taste buds are concentrated in the mouth, catfish have taste receptors both inside their mouths and across external parts of their bodies. These receptors can be found on the barbels, lips, face, head, body and even the fins, although they are particularly concentrated around the mouth and barbels.

Depending on the species and size of the fish, a catfish can have more than 100,000 taste buds. This extensive sensory system is especially valuable in muddy, dark or low-visibility environments where eyesight may be less effective.

As a catfish moves through the water, its external taste receptors help it gather chemical information about its surroundings and locate potential food. Once something enters its mouth, additional taste receptors help the fish evaluate it before swallowing.🎣

What started as a quick family outing on Buggs Island Lake in Virginia turned into a memory this crew won’t soon forget. “Papa” fought this giant from start to finish on a B’n’M Silver Cat Elite before his grandson-in-law helped get her landed.

With Nana, Papa, the grandkids and the whole family there to see it, they got a best weight of 108 lbs.

Now THAT’S putting the Silver Cat Elite to the test. Congratulations on an incredible catch.🎣
