Aikido is a Japanese Martial Art founded Morihei Ueshiba, aka O'Sensei (Great Teacher) based upon the principles of balance & harmony. It is an effective non-aggressive style of self-defense, focusing on awareness and taking control of a situation instead of being controlled by it. When practicing aikido, we utilize circular movement to redirect attacks and blend with the attacker into a variety o

f throws and/or joint locking techniques. Because the emphasis is on blending with an attack instead of clashing head-on, the practice of aikido is a skill that when executed properly requires little strength and can seem almost magical. For this reason, Aikido can be enjoyed by men, women and children of all ages.

A note for the January 17th Iaido Seminar from Herve Rouxel Sensei:

For those of you who are still on the fence about attending because you want to avoid kneeling kata, do not worry. The Aiki Toho Iai curriculum is a standing kata series. It is a martially dense curriculum that teaches practical iai skills.

For those who are bringing your own swords, please leave your shinken at home. Only unsharpened iaito and bokken will be permitted in the training area. All swords will be checked for safety before being allowed into the training area.

While photography will be welcome, please do not record any video without first directly asking Rouxel Sensei.

This seminar promises to be an enriching experience for swordsmen and Aikidoka alike! We hope to see everyone there!

For those of you who are not on our mailing list, save the date and come participate! Herve Rouxel, 6th Dan, will be leveraging his extensive experience in Iaido and Kenjutsu to highlight how the weapons technique and empty hand technique should be integrated. This first of many seminars will help make both Aikido and Iaido's martial elements more apparent. A great event for martial artists of any discipline but most especially practitioners of Aikido and Iaido.
