First post since almost 6 years. For those of you who don’t know, my career path has taken me away from call making for the most part and I really haven’t turned a call since my last post in 2017. In my line of work, I only get to come home for one week out of the month. Usually that week at home is non stop with my wife and three daughters who rightfully deserve as much time as I can give them. Broke the belt on my lathe quite a few years back and actually ordered a new one shortly after, but never got around to installing it. Just kind of glanced at it every time I was in the shop. The new belt is on the lathe and couldn’t help myself to see if I still had it. It’s like riding a bike even though it took me about twice as long as I remember to turn one out of acrylic, but here’s the first one out of the Bayou Built Calls shop since 2017. #268 ivory acrylic with brass band single reed. Excuse the terrible photo. I’ll be making as many calls as I can while on my week at home moving forward, but here’s the deal. The biggest reason I quit making calls was the amount of custom orders I was taking took all the fun out of it. I did that to myself, but moving forward I’m going to turn the material of my choice. I’ll take a order here and there, but mostly only if I have the material in stock. I do this as a hobby that just kind of supports itself. I love to make calls, and will continue to do so as long as my body allows it and the fun stays in it! There’s a few out there that I owe trade calls too and those two will hit the bench first. Happy hunting!
