Long Branch Elks Lodge and West Long Branch Sports Association are inviting area youth to the annual free basketball Elks Hoop-Shoot contest, a free-throw competition

on Saturday, December 11, 2021 in FAS Gym. Registration opens at 12:00 noon.

Contestants will compete in one of six divisions:

Boys, ages 8-9

Girls, ages 8-9

Boys, ages 10-11

Girls, ages 10-11

Boys, ages 12-13

Girls, ages 12-13

If the contestant will be age 7 on April 1, 2022, he/she is too young to participate.

If the contestant will be age 8 or 9 on April 1, 2022, he/she shoots in the 8 to 9 age-group.

If the contestant will be age 10 or 11 on April 1, 2022, he/she shoots in the 10 to 11 age-group.

If the contestant will be age 12 or 13 on April 1, 2022, he/she shoots in the 12 to 13 age- group.

If the contestant will be age 14 on April 1, 2022, he/she is too old to participate.

The top-scoring boy and girl in each age category will have the opportunity to represent the lodge at the district-level competition January 22nd at Old Bridge High School Grade Nine Center. Rte. 516.

Those top scorers will go on to the state and regional competitions, with a chance to make it all the way to the National Hoop-Shoot contest in April at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts, as guests of the Elks organization.

WLB Sports Association’s U-13 Girls Team is looking to establish its program, which is open for any students who will be enrolled in the 7th & 8th grades this September as part of the 2021-2022 school year.

Girls U-13 Tryouts: Any 7th & 8th grade girl interested in playing travel basketball is invited to tryout where they will participate in a combination of drills and scrimmage. The tryouts/practices will be held on Wednesday, September 29th , October 6th, and October 13th from 6pm-7pm in the FAS gym. The coaches will look to provide a fair and just opportunity for each player to demonstrate her ability at shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding, defense, 3 on 3 and 5 on 5. The coaches will notify parents shortly after the tryouts with a recommendation for their daughter to play travel or continue their development with recreation basketball.
