Authentic Joe Pilates The Headstand

A very challenging exercise on the reformer. Teaching the Headstand in the beginning starts with being a good spot.

To assist in the placement and making sure they don’t loose balance.

This exercise takes a lot of Strength, Control and Balance. Along with good hands on spotting.

Joe taught headstand to build:
• spinal length
• shoulder strength
• total body control

Teaching tip:
Don’t kick up.

Most people kick into a headstand on the Reformer.

That’s the mistake.

Joe Pilates wanted CONTROL, not momentum.

Stack the shoulders, then float the legs up.

That control is what Joe was after.
