I found Zumba in 2014, right after my high school bestie asked me to be in her wedding. I joined a gym, found Zumba, and within a few weeks people were telling me they’d seen a difference. Very inconveniently a month later, I tore my ACL playing basketball with students at my full time job!

I would do stationary exercises at the gym, longingly glancing at the groupX room - their playlist reverberated through the gym and made me so envious! It seemed like every commercial on TV had dancing, jumping, running, and I felt so helpless and confined. Yet after a long year of physical therapy, surgery, and yet more therapy, I was finally cleared to dance again!

And another year later (January 2017), just to learn more about the Zumba program and with no intention whatsoever of teaching my own class, I took the training to get my Zumba license - knee brace and all. Well turns out I decided to teach, and here I am 7 years later!

This is serving as a reminder to myself (and anyone else who needs the message), good things come to those who persevere. It’s not just about waiting for something good to come along, but the patience and dedication it takes to get yourself where you want to go. Find a way to make things happen!
