Residents are invited to a public information meeting on Thursday, September 10th at Elmwood Community Center to learn about the Kane and Kennedy Brook Flood Study. The meeting will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a presentation from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be recorded on WHCi, and the presentation will be added to the project webpage after September 10th. (https://www.westhartfordct.gov/town-departments/engineering/storm-water-management/kane-kennedy-flood-study)

This study will identify flood-prone areas, determine the causes, and make recommendations to reduce or eliminate flooding. Unlike other completed studies, this study will recommend green stormwater solutions in addition to upgrades to the drainage systems of the Town of West Hartford and the City of Hartford. Green stormwater solutions are new storm drainage infrastructure or modifications to existing storm drainage systems that capture stormwater rather than allowing it to continue flowing through the system.

It is important that we hear from residents in the Kane and Kennedy Brook study area who have flooding issues that may not be identified on town records or the consultants’ analyses. Residents are encouraged to learn more about the study and submit comments or questions to [email protected] by September 24th, 2026. The study is expected to be completed by December 31, 2026.

Join us tonight (Sat 8/29) at Westmoor Park to hear Poet Laureate, Clare Rossini, reading poems about birds while listening to the amazing soundscape at Westmoor Park! 🐦📣

Let’s celebrate the birds who fill our mornings with song, who inspire us as they soar through the air.

Join West Hartford’s Poet Laureate, Claire Rossini, to celebrate the beauty of birds through poetry on August 29th, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Westmoor Park (Outdoor Classroom), 119 Flagg Road, West Hartford, CT 06117.

You are invited to bring a poem to read. It can be one you’ve written or a favorite penned by someone else.

Everyone is welcome! Kids, teens, adults, poets, poets-to-be, everyone who enjoys poetry and birds.

From 9am - 1pm tomorrow (Sunday 8/30), streets will be blocked off to create a safe space and attendees will enjoy a "street festival" atmosphere. Make sure to explore the newly opened 2-way bike lane on Farmington Avenue that connects the Troutbrook Trail to the Center. Bicycles, roller skates, strollers, scooters, and feet are all welcome...just no motorized equipment please. Hope to see you there! 🚲😎☀️
