RomanEmpire.net The Senate and People of Rome (SPQR), an elite melee fighting unit in Warbands and the SCA. Roman might was made legendary by the valor of her glorious Legions.

Sandaled feet marched to the clash of arms through a river of blood. The Legions carved out Rome's expanding dominion through battle and butchery, from Britain to Egypt. From a patchwork of conquests, the diverse nations and cultures of three continents were transformed into one world, one Empire!

Do you ever wish you could have made history, earning glory in Rome wars? Now's your

chance to do it! The Legions still expand the Empire's dominions every weekend. We share a fascination with history and get to enjoy it as a fast-paced, action packed sport! The eastern United States boast a wide variety of medieval combat organizations, including Dagorhir Battle Games and the Society for Creative Anachronism, or SCA. Rome has enjoyed participation in regional medievalist combat circuits since 1987, and we welcome you to join our fun. If this sounds like your kind of fun, Rome wants you! Historic Romans understood how to conquer and reign. Using the principles of war that established the Roman Empire as supreme, we have duplicated their success. We are always recruiting, building new Legions to share our peerless glory. We offer numerous advantages to people who share our interest. We will train you to use competitive combat techniques. We will help you construct armor and weapons that will help ensure your superiority on the fields of battle. You'll enjoy the exhilaration of experiencing a safe medieval combat simulation with a winning team. In return, Rome expects your regular participation as a combatant at our events, and your devoted adherence to our high standards of honor, sportsmanship, and loyalty. Rome is about fun and teamwork, using organization to achieve success. We've achieved national fame and glory in the Dagorhir Battle Game Association and in the Society for Creative Anachronism. Romans strive to be the best of friends, and the most challenging of opponents. (We don’t believe in having "enemies," believing that all "medievalists" share a common interest that should unite us. But friendly competition has its place on the battlefield, where glory is earned.) Whether your interests lie in joining us as a citizen of Rome, fighting with us at Ragnarok or Pennsic, or even fighting against us in the medievalist societies we recommend, please contact us. We welcome all who share our interest in the glory and majesty that was (and is) Rome. Ave Legions of Rome!

Pennsic is the largest medieval reenactment event in North America. 10,000+ fighters, artisans, and history enthusiasts at Cooper's Lake for nine days of War Week. Almost two thousand fighters take the field. Rome fights at the front. Miss it and you'll wait another year. Pennsic preregistration ends June 15.

Pennsic 53 Preregistration Deadline is Approaching! Act now!

Ave mighty Legions of Rome!

Pennsic is almost upon us, and Rome will answer the call. I hope to see every one of you take the field under the Eagles — and have the time of our lives together!

The Pennsic 53 battle schedule is out! I've posted it in the comments. Mark your calendars, comrades. We're in for some epic contests of martial prowess, so come prepared to fight. We have Rome's reputation to uphold and new legends to build.

Preregistration closes June 15 at 11:59 pm. That's only two weeks away. Please don't wait. Register at the link below, choose Rome from the picklist as your camping group, and send your PENN number(s) to [email protected]. Preregistering is not just a formality — it directly determines how much land Rome is allocated. If you show up without preregistering, you are taking land from the Romans who did preregister. If you need financial help to preregister before June 15, please reach out to me or anyone you trust. Preregistration is here: https://www.cooperslake.com/prereg/account/index.php

💡 Pro tip: Get your SCA membership if you don't have one. The discount on Pennsic attendance alone pays for it. And if you attend even one more SCA event this year, you come out ahead. https://www.sca.org/join-us/

⚔️ Still need to authorize before Pennsic? Let me know now while there's still time to sort it out. All fighters should be authorized before the War.

Finally, I so many polearm hits to the head this weekend that I forgot Saturday was Eligius' eighteenth birthday. Marius' son honored us all by choosing to spend this milestone on a battlefield with Rome, and deserves to be celebrated for it. Ave Eligius!!! 🎉

And while we're celebrating: birthdays this month go to Pendin, Marcus Castus (June 1), Caecilia (June 9), Carradonicus (June 12), Count Spartacus (June 14), and Beldinius (June 15). Thank you all for everything you do and continue to give to Rome.

Ave to all who fought at Armistice 2026!

Rome salutes every fighter who took the field, and everyone who made the event possible. From the clash of rattan, foam or steel to the last breath of battle, each fighter gave everything they had. You faced your opponents with courage and stood your ground as champions worthy of legend. Whether you fought under the Rome's Eagles or faced us in the swirl of melee, you fought as true combatants: skilled, disciplined, and relentless.

To the melee champions who rose above all others: your names are written now in the annals of Armistice. Champions like Vassilis, J.P., Magnus and Hengist. To you and to all your worthy fighters, thank you! We appreciate your presence and your continued friendship. Rome has enjoyed many worthy allies and adversaries across our decades of glory. This weekend, you earned your place among them. We were honored by your presence, your sacrifice of time and sweat and spirit, and the brotherhood we forged on the field of battle.

To Maximus, Curia and Elvorix, thank you (and everyone who helped you) for a stupendously successful Aedile's event. You fed a hundred hungry and appreciative people, be they campers or fighters who'd been under arms all day. Everyone came away with a sated appetite and good fellowship. Not all friendships are forged on the battlefield.

Now, we look to 2027 with eager anticipation. Armistice grows because warriors answer the call. To all of our friends: come join the fun next year. Whether you're a seasoned champion or you have never yet worn harness, there is a place for you on the battlefield. Come earn eternal renown at Armistice, May 27-31, 2027. Don't miss out!

(More pictures to come.)

Rome has always honored those who answer the call.

This Memorial Day, we recognize the Romans who march in our ranks and who, along with many of our friends, have served in the United States Armed Forces. Our Roman veterans have worn two eagles: the signum of Rome and the uniform of their country. You brought to military service the same qualities that make you great Romans: honor, loyalty, and a commitment to those who stand beside you.

We are proud to stand beside you, brothers. And we remember those who did not come home.

Ave, Milites. 🦅

The Eagles march in one week. Will you be there? Glory is eternal.

Armistice 2026 opens at Cooper's Lake on May 28th, and Rome will be on the field. Four days of foam fighting and rattan/heavy armored combat. For Romans, each fighting day counts as credit for two battle days. Don't miss out.

See you on the field of battle. 🦅

Rome mourns the passing of Lady Mystic, wife of Lord Aster, Legatus of Legion XX.

She carried no weapon. She held no rank in the Legions. But she fought for us every day of every war. She hauled a wagon of water across the field, through open ground and through the woods. It weighed more than the full SCA kit of any two Roman soldiers. Twenty to thirty Romans stayed in the fight because Lady Mystic showed up and worked without complaint, battle after battle, year after year.

When at War, it is a Roman proverb to say that, "You are either supporting the war effort, or you are hindering it." Lady Mystic personified this sentiment with her determined support of our martial culture. The Phalerae are a Roman award for extreme valor. This was reserved for the soldiers who make up Rome's mighty Legions. Lady Mystic received three Phalerae. She is the only noncombatant in the history of our unit to earn even one. She was also among the first civilian citizens of Rome. She earned every honor we bestowed upon her, and always went above and beyond our expectations of any civilian.

Everyone who ever camped with her or stayed on the field because of her efforts loved her. We will all miss her terribly. She always brought a lot to the table, never taking anything away. She was one of those irreplaceable people who made the whole thing better just by being there, and she will be sorely missed.

To Lord Aster and Alexander - we love you both. Rome stands with you.

Ave, Lady Mystic. You served with honor.
