I started CrossFit at 28 years old weighing over 300 pounds, in a marriage that wasn't right for me, and with one very specific goal: my doctor told me I needed to lose weight if I wanted to have children.
That was it. That was the whole reason.
I wasn't chasing a six-pack. I wasn't training for a competition. I just wanted to be a mom someday, and I needed to get healthier to get there.
So, I started. Boot camps first, then CrossFit — which I found almost by accident, driving past a sign one day. I did a free class, signed up for a two-week foundations course, and somewhere in those two weeks I realized I actually liked this. I had always hated cardio. But CrossFit was weightlifting with cardio built in, and that felt completely different to me. Within my first year, I lost another 70 pounds.
Something I didn't know then, but I know now?
Getting physically stronger changed everything else too. My confidence. My sense of who I was and what I actually wanted from my life. My first marriage didn't survive that transformation — we went in different directions, which happens — but I came out of it knowing myself better than I ever had. I followed the direction my life was pulling me toward, and I'm really glad I did.
Since then, functional fitness has carried me through three pregnancies, three postpartum recoveries, and — just this past December — a hysterectomy that I bounced back from faster than most women do. Not because I'm special, but because 13 years of training your body to do hard things means it knows how to heal and adapt when life asks it to.
That's what I mean when I say strength is for real life. Not just for the gym. For all of it.
I'm Coach Lisa, and this is TreanFit — where I share everything I've learned about movement, nutrition, habits, and what it actually takes to build health that lasts. If any part of this sounds familiar, I'm really glad you're here.
More to come. 👊
