Steve Bachorik lost a paddle during the race yesterday. Keep an eye out for it. Here’s his description of where it was lost:
“Just below the Oneonta dam in the rapids. After we tried to get going again, a guy yelled from the main street bridge and said it was hung up on the right side of the river but we couldn't stop to get it. I went back later but it was gone.”

The decision has been made to cancel the 2025 Wessels Race this Saturday. Due to a high water level, projected to rise 2 more feet by Saturday, it has been decided that the risk of someone being injured or dying is too high to ignore. The race director felt the call should be made early so that those traveling longer distances can make alternate plans. We are all feeling disappointed, but this is the smartest course of action. Thank you for your understanding.

A message from Ed Curley about the Wessels Race this coming Saturday:

The water is high and fast in Wellsbridge and even faster downstream. It’s probable that we will have to modify the race course and do a couple of laps in Wellsbridge (without going down to Sidney). Start and finish in Wellsbridge.

It’s not ideal, but if someone goes in the water at this level, it could be tragic. We want to race but, with limited risk.

If you’re coming to Wellsbridge to race on Saturday, please be flexible and understanding.
