On May 28, 2022, K9 Ruby was officially retired after a little over 8 years of dedicated service. The service account below summarizes some of the highlights in her career as a Kansas Game Warden K9. Enjoy your down time, Ruby. You sure have earned it!
K9 Ruby assisted with a multi-state wildlife check lane in Colorado that ran for 36 hours straight and over 1300 vehicles were inspected. K9 Ruby recovered stolen handguns that were hidden in fields as suspects ran from police. She located a hidden shotgun, and doves that were hidden as well; suspect was cited for over limit of doves and no hunting license. K9 Ruby became well-known for going down the face of the dam at Wellington Lake and alerting on backpacks filled with short walleye and saugeye. One of her larger finds was 10 fish over the limit and all fish were under legal length limits. K9 Ruby tracked individuals that were shooting illegally on the refuge at Cheney Wildlife Area. The suspects ran when approached and Ruby tracked them both and found one hiding in a brush pile and the other hiding under a tree root ball. A local police department requested K9 Ruby to track a wanted felon who had a warrant for his arrest and had run from officers into the woods. Ruby tracked directly to him and stood on suspects back. The suspect had covered himself with brush and was nearly impossible to see. In addition to her numerous cases where she located key evidence that led to confessions and convictions in countless wildlife cases, as well as numerous cases that assisted other local law enforcement agencies including police departments, sheriff departments and the KBI, K9 Ruby has participated in countless educational programs to the public. K9 Ruby participated in the Sumner County Dare Programs annually for 7 years, average attendance was 400 kids per year and was commonly the favorite attraction. K9 Ruby and her handler Chris Stout were also featured on the cover of the International Game Warden Magazine in 2017
