It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Richard “Dick” W. Fredericks — veterinarian, polo player, car racer, sailor, and one of the most generous souls the polo world has ever known.
•
Horsemanship runs in the Fredericks family — a proud legacy that Doc carried with him throughout his life. A Cornell-trained vet who treated Secretariat and Snowman, cared for polo ponies and racehorses, and never turned away a dog who needed him. A man who survived a hurricane at sea, swam next to a great white shark, and fox-hunted in Ireland. A polo player who shaped the careers and lives of many professional and amateur players, gave a home to so many — both humans and four legged — and dreamed of a place — Flying Cow Polo Club — where anyone could come enjoy a chukker and stay to watch the big guys play.
•
Doc led his life by example, and we will remember him every time we go onto the field or into the arena and remember why we are all here.
•
Doc is survived by his beloved family, who are ready to carry on his legacy at Cedar Croft Farm and Flying Cow Polo Club. Flying Cow will continue to operate in his memory, and we are deeply honored to carry on his legacy through this special club he created.
Thank you Doc, you have touched the lives of so many and we’ll carry your love for this sport with us always. 🩷
