A message from Dr. Schlichtemeier

Thank you for participating in the Cornhusker State Games for 2019
Congratulations to all the medal winners, but we all are winners because we showed up.
The world is run by the people that show up.
Many, many thanks to Tommy Nichols of Guns UNLIMITED at 120 and L in Omaha who
Underwrote our sport. Go there for your needs and when you are there thank him and the
cashier for his support.
Many thanks to assistants Dan Gillespie and David Anthony who helped a lot and to all the
Weeping Water Gun Club volunteers: King Bogardus, Dan Gillespie, Ron Grasmick, Peter Bell
Ray Ferber, Warren Harbin, GEne Kathol were a great help.
Many, many thanks to our Cannoneer, Cornetist, and computer expert. Art Coate who made
my life a lot easier.
Also many thanks to Charter Member of the Weeping Water Gun Club Charlie Daniels who
designed the Daniels Digital System that gave us the very same range commands each and
every time.
We do have some room for more women and junior competitors.
There are eighteen separate shooting sports in the Cornhusker State Games so you might want
to try one of them IN ADDITION to Pistol Marksmanship next year.
We sponsor a Saturday afternoon short event in May, a Marksmanship class in late May or
early June, and a “practice event” in June to help you get ready for the Cornhusker State
Games.
The Governors Ten is designed to designate the top ten marksmen in the state. The cuto
ff
score went up twenty points this year and the average score went up twelve points. This
means that the bar is raising. I encourage you to invite the best marksmen in the state to try
out for this event. The match is equally friendly to pistols or revolvers, has equal opportunity
for precision and action and combat or PPC type shooters, and is di
ffi
cult enough that a
perfect score is hardly ever attainable. Challenging for even the best shots. So, invite the best
shots out to qualify.
This years Governors’ Ten were: Dr. Wm Schlichtemeier, Omaha, SGT Travis Zwickle, McCook,
David Anthony, Bellevue, Daniel Gillespie, Omaha, Mike Kirstein, Omaha, Steve Ward, Omaha,
Fred Chrastil, Lincoln, Major Ron Hagen, Bellevue, Glenn Ward, Bellevue, and Austin Adams,
Lincoln. Congratulations!
This completes my 34th year as the Director of the Pistol Marksmanship sport in the
Cornhusker State Games. I thank the three people who have helped me a lot in the last few
years, David Anthony, Art Coate, and especially Daniel Gillespie. Mostly it is a bunch of
organization. I do need some additional help in the coming years. If you are able to make
some phone calls to help set up or arrange things, that would help me and the Games a lot.
Nebraska is the only state that relies only of volunteers and donations for their STATE GAMES.
Nebraskans are like that. The Games runs on a 1% margin or less. If you would consider a
small donation to the Games, or a donation of time from you or a family member, that will
continue the perpetuation of the Games.
Again, many thanks to Tommy Nichols of Guns UNLIMITED who totally underwrote our sport.
Dr. Schlichtemeier. 402-677-2456
