This afternoon was such a memorable hunt. In this same spot 8 years ago I killed my first deer! I have not killed a deer in this spot since, until today. This spot has so much history. It’s where Daniel and I first met. It’s where we plan to build our new home. 8 years ago, I knew I was hooked on hunting. Not just for the harvest but the way of life. The appreciation that you learn for the outdoors, the sunrises and sunsets, the time of reflection & most of all thanking the Good Lord for all his blessings. ❤️🦌

Got in the woods while it was still raining this morning, I was standing on a ridge listening for a bird that I knew was close as I had roosted him yesterday afternoon. 300 yards away across on the other ridge he hammered back at me as I gave him some cuts and yelps. So I close in another 100 yards on him and get set up. The whole set up is gonna be a long shot, he has a huge creek he has to cross plus he had some hens with him I knew Lady Luck had to be on my side but I set up on him anyway and started calling some. He gobbled again this time he sounded closer. After about 20 minutes of being set down, I gave him some yelps and purrs and he gobbled one more time just across the creek. He’s slowly making his way to me, I hear the squirrels start barking like crazy and I knew I had a chance cause he was coming towards me. Well not long after that I saw him fly across the creek over to me and I knew it was game on then. I’m a horrible mouth caller, but I gave him some light purrs and a few yelps behind my shoulder and that was all he needed. He came right on in like on a string. Came into 35 yards and it was lights out. What a fun hunt he was, good lord was looking out for me this morning.

Got it done this morning, so thankful for the opportunity on this guy. I was just fixing to climb down out of my climber and I looked up and he was walking down the ridge. I knew he was a shooter for our area, so I put the crosshairs right on him when I had the shot and took it. It was a beautiful morning, couldn’t have asked for a better hunt! ❤️🦌
