Took a drive down to West Newton, PA last weekend for the Grill Your ACE Off Steak Cookoff, or as its most commonly called “SAW BLADES!” They had a new venue this year and boy was it great, lots of room for everyone to spread out. Dan was the only one of us to walk this time with a very impressive tie for 6th place on Saturday. This event always draws top competition from across the country so it a special when you are fortunate to do well. Finally catching up our trip to Somers CT for the New England Steak Championship. This was our first entry in a comp with BYOR (Bring Your Own Ribeye) The jury is still out as we had mixed results. Terri did walk with a 6th Place in Steak A. And Dan dusted off his mini and got a walk in Ribs with an 8th. Elijah got to tag along this trip and he was soaking up all the personalized attention from Mom and Dad. Thanks again as always to some of the best sponsors in the business. Whew! Made it home from the Sizzle in the Hallow in Lynchburg, TN and we aren’t sure we have cooled down yet! Been too long since we have been in heat and humidity like that. Jimmy Driver and Marsha Hale host a fabulous event and even the heat couldn’t keep us away. Dan hasn’t competed in a Rib event since prior to COVID lockdown in KCBS and was determined just to do a basic Rib recipe to see where he stood. He was very happy to get a walk at 8th in a very impressive field of competitors. The heat didn’t prevent us from getting a couple walks in steak also. Shout out to Fat kids BBQ’s new sauce, Disruption Rubs new hog Havoc Rub and DB180 Rubs are always a solid choice anytime you need a flavor boost.
