Today marks the 35th anniversary of me shooting my first wild turkey. I remember writing a story about the hunt and submitting it to Turkey Hunter magazine. I was so excited when I was notified that my story was being published.
This afternoon my wife and I traveled to Foxborough, Massachusetts to attend Chuck DuPont’s Tri County Strutters annual fundraising banquet. Chuck, his wife Donna, and the rest of the committee did an outstanding job supporting the mission of the National Wild Turkey Federation.
I also want to thank Keith Fritz for engraving one of my favorite quotes from poet laureate Colonel Tom Kelly into a piece of black slate that was removed from a 150 year old house! This plaque will have a special place in my den.
Fast forward to today, I can honestly say that my passion for pursuing the wild turkey has never wavered! Having “Gobblin’ Fever” is a wonderful disease, and I thank God everyday for allowing me to pursue this magnificent game bird!

What a wonderful time it was taking 3 kids out hunting last weekend for the NH 2026 Turkey Youth Weekend. These kids are the real deal. It didn’t matter if you killed a turkey or not, they knew how to have a good time. It’s experiences like these that create memories that will last a lifetime. Oh yes, the adults had a wonderful time as well. I’m already looking forward to Youth Turkey Camp 2027!

What a beautiful morning to go turkey hunting with my father’s Re*****on 870!
It was a very slow start to the morning with zero gobbling. After calling sporadically for a couple of hours, I finally heard a faint gobble way off in the distance. I called again with some aggressive yelping and cutting from the Tomahawk, and Tommy turkey couldn’t take it any longer. He was closing the distance in a hurry. Within a few minutes, I could see his fan cresting the hill. I let him get within 15 yards and that was close enough. My dad would be proud that I’m still using his trusty Re*****on 870 that I gave him as a Christmas gift back in the early to mid 90’s. This bird is for you, Dad!

What a day at the Trinity Sportsman Show. Not only were we busy at the Running Wild Game Calls booth, but the New England Sound Off was a HUGE success. I can’t say’ “Thank You” enough to my amazing wife for overseeing this event. Friends from all over New England worked tirelessly to bring this event to fruition. The judges, Joe Judd, the contestants and people in the audience you’re all AMAZING! Than you!
Scott, Rob, Kim, Will and Charlotte you’re great people and thanks again for manning the CRS table and informing people about the mission of the NWTF! To the NHTA thank you for letting us talk turkey! You’re all wonderful! Thank you Brandon Reed and the rest of the crew for hosting this amazing event! Job well done!!!
Today, John and Jeffrey LaValley gifted me this beautiful box call! Not only does it look good it sounds great as well! Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Running Wild Games Calls booth! I’m glad we were able to talk “turkey.”
