I would like to start a thread that hopefully will reach a good audience and spread a little bit of God’s word amongst the Hunting community.

Due to work I haven’t been able to hunt much and this evening while feeding I took a step to look at the big picture of things. I normally just feed, clean kennels and water and it’s my fault for not just taking the time to acknowledge each dog. This evening I did just that and noticed the grey on my #1 dog and what use to be my best gyp she’s still honest but slowed down. It painted the picture that good dogs don’t last forever, so while you got them, get young dogs behind them to teach them the ropes. As the self proclaimed houndsmen that I choose to be I’ve failed them recently but I have good young dogs and hopefully these older dogs can give me another good season.

They may just be dogs but they’re gods creatures and for that I’m thankful to be their handler!

Gonna miss ya Fred. I didn’t start him but I had the chance to hunt him for a friend to get him going while he got his kennels set up and if there was a dog oozing with potential, this fella was it. No sign? No problem, Fred never had the issue of hunting and hunting HARD. NEVER had a hunt where I questioned if Fred was hunting. Cause he was always out. For as a young as he was that did get him in trouble, he holds the Kennel record for 5 raccoons(😂🤷🏽‍♂️) in one hunt.
He was at the point in age to where he was either going to fit my style or go to the rougher side of things. Unfortunately he got grittier and not because I didn’t like Fred but just the conflict in style so he was returned to my good buddy and he continued to show the same work ethic.
I received the call about him passing this morning, he had finally met the hog with his number on it. It’s a shame due to him being barely a year and half and so much potential to improve atleast he went the way he was bred to do.
I’ve never wrote anything like this about a dog I’ve had for a short time but Fred came in wanting to learn and as bone headed as he could be him and I had a bond.
I’ll miss ya buddy
