When Oklahoma moves to 1 buck, those NEIGHBORS sitting your fence lines today would be far more selective on the young bucks they would ordinarily shoot. Or, if they’d shot a young buck with their bow in October, they’d be done and not back in the field pursuing another one of those! They’d be out to shoot a doe or 3 instead of *ANOTHER* young buck. In turn, tens of thousands of nice young bucks in YOUR area live another year to grow older and in many cases, larger. More meat and larger antlers. ✔️
Oklahoma needs to harvest far more antlerless deer, especially west of 81 and north of 40, so this is an added benefit of 1 buck. People shooting more doe for the freezer. This in turn helps bring about a better balanced buck to doe s*x ratio which biologically is important to herd health.
One buck is the great equalizer between you and all your NEIGHBORS and this has been proven in Indiana, Kentucky, Kansas, and Ohio to be the most effective, simple, highly impactful rule that a state can implement for people to hunt age.
Or, if they still want to shoot a yearling buck, that’s great. But they get one and not two like they do now. Thus, tens of thousands of young bucks live another year win-win!
