2022 MEN'S MEMBER-GUEST RECAP
After what seemed to be weeks of rain showers, the skies cleared for 3 days of perfect weather for the 30 teams to compete in the 2022 MMG on July 21-23. As always, the competition was fierce with a dozen competitors with handicap of zero or better up to a plus 9!!

Within each of the 6 flights, the team with the most points from the 2-day competition advanced to Saturday’s Shootout, along with 1 team additional team with highest combined point total. Advancing to the Shootout were: Rego Jones / Tony Green, 31 pts (Flight 1); Koleton Revis / Bobby Revis, 27.5 pts (Flight 2); Bob Holquist / Pepper Taylor, 33.5 pts (Flight 3); Marc Tompkins / Walter Busbee, 28.5 pts (Flight 4); Rusty Olson / John Fields, 35.5 pts (Flight 5); Dave Matthys / Buck Williams, 28.5 pts.

During the first wave of the Shootout, two teams were eliminated (Flights 2 & 5) leaving 4 teams remaining to fight it out. The next to be eliminated via a chip off were Flights 1 & 4. That left Dave Matthys and Buck Williams playing against the defending champs, Bob Holquist and Pepper Taylor, for the title. After tying the next two playoff holes, a Closest to the Pin shot on hole #18 determined the winner. With a huge crowd watching from the clubhouse deck, four impressive shots were hit from the 100 yards mark. In the end, Bob Holquist and Pepper Taylor took home the trophy with back-to-back wins in 2021 and 2022.

Throughout the competition, our Closest to the Pin Winners included: Roy Greene, #3; Tony Green, #3 & #8; Garrett Greene, #8; Steve Brown, #10; Danny Clement,s #10; Gary Lance, #17; and Jack Prevost, #17. Also noteworthy, Danny Clements made a Hole In One on #10 on Saturday. Congrats to all competitors for memorable play, and especially to our MMG Champs, Bob Holquist and Pepper Taylor.

MMG SKILL CHALLENGES: Many activities were planned as part of the MMG event including three Skill Challenges: Long Drive / Putting / Chipping.

In the CHIPPING CONTEST held in conjunction with Thursday night’s Beer Tasting event, there were 4 contestants who tied by hitting their chip shots into the target (a kiddie pool) set up at a distance of 32 yards. After a playoff between Roy Greene, Jon Henson, Shane Treadway and Danny Clements, the Title of BEST CHIPPER was declared a tie between Shane Treadway and Danny Clements.

In the 2nd Skills Challenge, PUTTING, there was another declared tie as Robin Burchell, Dennis McGowan Jr. and Shane Treadway fought to the end but eventually decided to share the title of BEST PUTTER.

In the third Skills Challenge, LONG DRIVE, there was an impressive list of young limberbacks pummeling drives down #1 fairway. A large crowd watched these strong golf swings and were treated to some striking long drives. In the end, the long drive of 377 yards belonged to Luke Gifford, followed by Koleton Revis with 348 yards and Isley McClure at 376 yards. Hope to see everyone competing again next year!

LRCC will partner with HART Theatre again in September! Members can enjoy Brunch at the club on Sunday, September 11 at 12:30 pm and then head over to HART for reserved seats at 2 pm for this heart-warming play staged in Civil War America.

Coming in September to HART: Little Women the Musical!

Jo Marsh wants to be a writer, and as she struggles to get published, she begrudgingly takes the advice of a friend to write about something more personal. Through soaring melodies and an unforgettable score, Jo weaves the stories of herself and her sisters, Meg, Beth and Amy, and their experience growing up in Civil War America. Based on Louisa May Alcott’s beloved novel, Little Women is filled with adventure (both lived and imagined), personal discovery, heartache, and a deep sense of hope. This timeless, captivating story encompasses a true night at the theatre providing you with laughter, tears, and a lifted spirit.

“Little Women” plays every weekend in September. You can get your tickets at harttheatre.org or by calling our Box Office at (828)456-6322

Recapping LRCC Club Championships, August 12-14, 2022

We had great weather for our 2022 Club Championships! This competitive and fun weekend kicked off on Friday with our juniors. Our men and women battled on Saturday and Sunday for Ladies Club Champion, Ladies Senior Club Champion, Legends Club Champion (80 & older), Super Senior Club Champion (70& older), Senior Club Champion (60 & older) and Men’s Club Champion (Blue Tees).

JUNIORS: Our rising golf stars were divided into 3 age divisions:
• 17&U playing 18 holes of competition from the white tees
• 12&U playing 9 holes of competition from forward tees
• 5&U competing on 3 holes from forward tees.
Winning the 5&U division was JONES CROOK! In the 12&U division, we had a close race with RYLIN HODGIN taking the victory followed by CHARLES CROOK in 2nd and HART MCCRACKEN in 3rd. The 17&U winner and Overall Junior Club Champion is J.D. SMITH with a solid score of 90 from the white tees!

LADIES & LADIES’ SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS: The sun was shining and tee times kicked off around 10 o’clock on Saturday and Sunday. Earning the title of Ladies’ Senior Club Champ, LISA BENSON turned in an impressive 2-day score of 165 (149). VERONICA VON ZWEHL took the 1st place Net victory with 166 (134). MEN’S CLUB CHAMPION: Last but not least, we have our coveted title (which comes with its own parking spot) of Men’s Club Champion. These golfers are the cream of the crop and take on the course’s toughest set of tees, the Blue tees. In the runner up spot was previous Club Champion, TIM ECKBERG, with a score of 72-76-148. Tim is WCU Men’s Golf coach and we always love to have him return home to compete. Solid scores Tim! Now for what we have all been waiting for… KOLETON REVIS is our new Men’s Club Championship! Koleton absolutely scorched the course on Day 2 making 6 birdies and an eagle. His scores of 75-67-142 are some of the lowest scores ever recorded in this event! Enjoy your new parking spot, Koleton!

Special thanks to everyone who participated in these prestigious events! More pictures to come...
