Enter The Dragon!
August 19, 1973, Dad took my brother and I to see Bruce Lee's final movie. Keith and I came out of that theater kicking, spinning, jumping, punching...we were so powerful! So skilled! So ready to take on any altercation that could present itself. Would be attackers? Watch out! You better think twice before you try to jump on us!
Reality check...
We had no clue what we were doing!! We were just trying to mimic what we had just seen on the big screen. If we had been confronted with an assault, we most likely would have failed miserably.
Unfortunately, this is where a lot of people are in their self-defense skills. They THINK they are prepared...they BELIEVE they are equipped...they are only fooling themselves.
Self-defense is not what you see on the screen. It is not buying and carrying pepper spray, brass knuckles, a knife, laser, CCW, etc.
Self-defense MUST be trained. Training Saves Lives.
You don't learn CPR by watching a video on it...you train.
You don't wait until a fire breaks out and then attempt to get children and teachers out of the school building...you train through fire drills beforehand. Training Saves Lives.
Imagine having to be rushed to the ER and when you arrive, the ER Team have had zero training. This team has just learned their skills by watching movies, TV shows, reading books. What a fiasco...what a circus!
We are not taught self-defense in school. There is not a requirement for this. If we are going to prepare ourselves and be ready for a possible criminal attack, we MUST train ahead of time. Training after such an event is too late.
