While Jimmy and his nephews Chase and Spencer got bit by the turkey hunting bug, Jimmy’s brother Steven missed that bite.

However, this morning Spencer convinced his dad to go and he would be the guide and I have to say he did a pretty good job

After striking out at the first farm the guys loaded up and headed to a second farm and before they could get to their spot they spotted multiple birds in the field.
After doing and end around and getting set up, Spencer started calling and this gobbler answered right away and cut him off
After about 30 minutes of slowly making his way to the guys this ole boy finally started at a steady pace and walked directly in front of Steven who sent the TSS his way and it was lights out.

Congratulations Steven on your first tom. It is a dandy

PS Spencer has started off as a good guide but needs to work on his picture taking skills. lol

This past weekend Shorty’s son John who now lives in Iowa got to come visit for a few days and what do you do when you travel hundreds of miles to visit family…..well you go turkey hunting of course. lol

With only a few days to hunt Shorty and John set out the first morning and it didn’t take long to get John on the board.

After getting to their spot and setting up in the dark the guys found out at daylight that they had actually sat down almost directly under some hens and that some gobblers were roosted just down the ridge.

Luckily the hens that were roosted above them didn’t spook and pitched down right in front of Shorty and John and after allowing the hens to feed on off Shorty began soft calling and it wasn’t long until this gobbler and his buddy strolled in and John sealed the deal.

Congratulations John

Well Ms Avery is hanging in there with the guys this year and this morning she punched her final tag on a fine gobbler.

Shorty, Avery and Cliff went to one of the fields where we had been seeing several toms and got set up well before daylight.

At daylight turkeys began to fly down into the field and shortly after that a gobbler sounded off behind the blind.

After a few soft calls from Cliff it wasn’t long until Shorty heard a turkey drumming and this guy with 2 others stepped out to their left but their mistake was that they were in range of Avery’s Re*****on.

Congratulations Avery. Look at that smile

Jimmy’s nephew Spencer decided he wanted in on the tagging out party this morning.

He and older brother Chase went to one of our farms at daylight but the birds were not talking so the boys loaded up and went to another farm just down the road.

While getting out of the truck at that farm, three gobblers sounded and after grabbing their gear the guys set up and worked those gobblers for awhile but for whatever reason they just wouldn’t come in to Chase’s calling.

The guys then made their way on up the field where they saw this gobbler and another long beard.

After doing an end around and getting in front of the turkeys Chase made a few soft calls which the gobblers answered and it wasn’t long before Spencer was able to punch his last tag on a fine Tennessee gobbler.

Congratulations Spencer.

While reviewing the page and going over the harvest numbers we realized that we were one short.

After researching we finally figured out that somehow we had failed to post this fine gobbler killed by Cliffs brother in law and long time J-Hook friend Jeff Walker

Jeff had chased the weary old fellow for 3 mornings before he finally was able to finish the deal but persistence paid off and Jeff put his tag on a great gobbler.

Congratulations Jeff

To say the J-Hook has had a good year would be the understatement of the century.

10 days into the season and Doug became the final guy of the crew to tag out.

Jimmy, Cliff and Doug went to one of the farms this morning and even though it didn’t start out too hot in the area where they started the guys did hear several turkeys.

After deciding which one to go after it didn’t take long before they had settled and began waiting to see what the gobbler would do.

After getting sit down the gobbler sounded off approximately 200 yards away. Jimmy then made a series of calls followed by Doug making a call, all which the gobbler answered.

The next time the bird gobbled he had done closed 70 yards and was coming hard. 5 more minutes and the bird came through the gap in the tree-line and came on a rope to 35 yards where Doug finished the deal.

Congratulations Doug

Cliff became the third member of the team to tag out this morning.

After not hearing much gobbling at daylight Cliff just found a comfortable spot and just waited to see what he could hear.

After an hour or so Cliff heard a gobbler sound off and worked his way towards where the he was.

After a series of events to long, and funny to post here (lol) Cliff had worked his way into position but was still to far away for a shot.

Thankfully after a few minutes the gobbler started working his way towards Cliff and Cliff finished the deal.

Congratulations Cliff.

We are a little late getting this one out on the board but 4-18 was a great day for the J-Hook crew.

Cliff had grandson Ben (far right) back hunting with him again this weekend and after getting setup early it wasn’t long before the gobblers started talking. As they sat there it wasn’t long when Cliff saw two gobblers working their way to the set up and decoys. As the gobblers got close Cliff told Ben to shoot when he had a clear shot. Well Ben shot and the two gobblers took off and Cliff looked to see what had happened only to see this fine double bearded gobbler flopping as he had slipped in without Cliff seeing him.

Also this morning Shorty (far left) took Hayden Luke (middle) to try to get him a bird and sure enough they were in the right spot. The birds were talking and it wasn’t long before they hit the ground and after a few soft calls these two nice gobblers came strolling in where Shorty and Hayden Luke doubled up.

Congratulations to all the crew on a great day

After Spencer seeing multiple gobblers all week but not being able to get one to read the script him and Uncle Jimmy finally got one who wanted to ride in the truck this morning.

After moving to their second set up spot they were still settling in when a gobbler sounded off at the other end of the field.

After getting the decoys set out Jimmy snuck back into the tree line and began calling. After 2-3 sets of calls the guys noticed there were 2 gobblers on that end of the field but on opposite sides.

After a couple of more calls this tom sounded off behind them and he was close.

1 more series of calls and this guy came mean mugging up the decoys and Spencer unleashed the hand cannon.

Congratulations Spencer.

Well he may regret it later but with summer like temps forecasted for several days and not knowing exactly how all of his other irons in the fire were going to work out Jimmy decided to go ahead and tag out this morning.

He set up along a creek bank where the land owner had said he had been seeing several birds and by the time Jimmy got everything situated the birds were already gobbling.

The first gobbler hit the field about 300 yards to Jimmys left and was the only tom in the field for awhile but after working that tom for about 30 minutes Jimmy heard 2 more sound off on the hill behind him.

Five minutes later those two toms flew down into the field in front of Jimmy (one at 12 steps and the 2nd one at 15)and went straight to the strutter decoy.

Congratulations Jimmy. Now you can go call for others. lol
