Wayne Skate Park

Wayne Skate Park Trying to gain local support to create a new skate park at the community activity center.

I have spoken to my city council members and the skatepark will be a subject of conversation at the upcoming council retreat! The most likely location is at the city activity center, which will be a perfect fit. More info to come after the retreat.

It's warming up again, so keep an eye out for skaters on our streets and sidewalks. Let's do them one better and keep up support for a skatepark here in Wayne. I've spoken to my council person and told them we need one, and you all should do the same. Not sure who your council person is? That's OK, follow this link:

So my wife told me if we win the lottery this week I can buy the Shopko building here in Wayne (which is unfortunately going to close) and build an indoor skate park... so keep your fingers crossed!

Congrats to the city of Norfolk and Good Life Action Sports for securing the funds for their new skate park! If we stay committed to the project here in Wayne I hope to have as much success once the serious decisions are made about the old swimming pool

The idea of the skate park did come up briefly at the council meeting. Although it was decided that until the old pool was cleared away, there was a clear focus on what would be going up there and of course the overall dollar amount, the city was not going to apply for the grant to develop the area this year. I see this only as a minor setback in the project. Once the site is ready I hope to get very serious on pushing for approval of the skate park, location at the site and looking for outside funding. I'll keep everyone posted as I hear things. Thanks everyone

Tonight is the night the city council will officially begin to decide what to do with the old pool. Council meeting begins at 5:30 at city hall, I encourage anyone interested in supporting the skate park to come out and let your opinion be heard. Parents bring your kids, let the city know you'd like a safe place for your kids to skate. Thanks everyone!

Exciting news! Last night a town hall style meeting was held open to the public, brainstorming ideas about what to do with the old pool and surrounding park space. Out of 13 ideas the skate park tied for 3rd in the vote! This is excellent progress into possibly moving the skate park into the first phase of the areas development! Thank you to all the community members who came out and voiced their opinions, and thank you to all the FB friends and followers of this page. I would encourage anyone who feels that a modern skate park would be an awesome addition to our community to contact the council person in your ward and show your support.

One of the members of the old pool park committee made this concept drawing demonstrating the potential the area has. He is also a big supporter of the skate park idea and I love that he placed the skate park almost dead center in the park (the area shaded green) with a very cool banked trail leading in and out of the skate park area (the darker green line). Our old pool park committee is now waiting for a budget from the city council which will determine just how much we are able to do with the space. It is expected that the area will be developed in phases, with the most popular and, or cost effective options being addressed first. However, with the prospect of the skate park again possible, public support and private funding could help nudge it out of the "some day" plan and back into the realm of sooner than later.

Hey everyone, sorry about the lull in action here but exciting news right now! I am officially on the committee which is deciding what to do with the old pool area and a skate park is on the board as one of the options to bring to the city council! There is still a long way to go to make this a reality though so keep those likes and shares coming in so I have some solid support to take to the next meeting. Thanks!

Hello everyone, no I haven't disappeared or forgot about the cause, just been crazy busy. Well we've got some buzz going and I have the ear of at least a couple council people who are willing to listen to a request for a skate park. Now we need a committee. Anyone interested please message me good times to meet up and we can get our heads together on this. Also it's very important for anyone viewing the page to like it or better yet share it so I can have all that data showing support when we take this thing to the city. thanks everyone
