Carter Ross, the steady junior point guard for the Wayne High Pioneers (Wayne, WV), has emerged as a key floor general and leader for the program.
In the 2025-26 season, Ross averaged 6.4 assists per game across 26 contests while contributing 6.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game. His elite vision and unselfish playmaking stood out, as he consistently set up teammates and facilitated ball movement—exactly the style coach Sean Meddings emphasizes when preaching shared basketball and high assist totals.
Ross’s leadership shone brightest in guiding the Pioneers to historic success. He helped lead Wayne to its first-ever berth in the WVSSAC Class AA state tournament in 2026 after the team held off Buffalo in the Region 4 co-championship game. In the state quarterfinals, Ross delivered nine points and seven assists with zero turnovers in a decisive 72-48 win over Doddridge County—the program’s first state tournament victory. Meddings praised him as “the best point guard in the state of West Virginia,” highlighting how Ross’s calm direction and precise passing fueled the team’s strong ball movement (18 assists as a group in that game).
