Member of the Month 💜

This month we’re are also recognizing Jim Twomey!

For the past 6 years, Jim has been a consistent part of our community, showing up, putting in the work, and helping make DOD the place it is today. As a Partner Manager at an IT services company, he spends his days solving problems, but around the gym you’ll usually find him chasing handstand walks, working toward a 350 lb back squat, and occasionally negotiating with his jump rope during double unders.

What stands out most about Jim isn’t a lift or a workout. It’s the value he places on community. He shared that one of the biggest impacts DOD has had on his life is the people it has brought into both his life and his family’s life. The friendships, support, and relationships built here have meant a lot to him, and we’re grateful he’s been such an important part of that same culture for others.

Outside the gym, Jim enjoys traveling and spending time with his family. Inside the gym, he brings consistency, resilience, and a positive attitude that makes those around him better.

His advice for anyone thinking about starting CrossFit is simple:

“If you come with a positive attitude and accept the coaching, you’ll see results quickly.”

Member of the Month 💜

This month we’re celebrating Jen Woody!

Jen is a soccer coach at Charlotte Soccer Academy and one of those people who makes every class a little better just by being in it. Whether she’s tackling a workout she loves or surviving a burpee-filled day, she always shows up ready to work and encourage those around her.

After recovering from several major surgeries and spending a few years away from a regular fitness routine, Jen found her way to CrossFit and has steadily rebuilt her strength, mobility, and confidence. One of her favorite accomplishments so far has been getting her first double under. Now she’s working on stringing them together!

What keeps Jen coming back is what makes DOD special: the people. No matter what class she drops into, she knows she’ll be surrounded by hard-working, encouraging people who make fitness fun.

Outside the gym, you’ll usually find Jen spending time with her family, hanging out with her four dogs, or heading to the beach whenever she gets the chance.

Her advice for anyone nervous to start CrossFit:
“Just show up. The coaches are outstanding at modifying workouts to meet your needs and wherever you are on your fitness journey. You’ll get a great workout every day.”

We’re thankful for your consistency, positive attitude, and the example you set for others, Jen. We’re proud to have you as part of the DOD family! 👏💜

☀️ Summer Schedule Update for JV ☀️

School may be out, but we’re still moving, learning, and having fun together!

From June 15th through August 14th, JV classes will meet at 12:00 PM on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

We’re excited for a summer full of fitness, confidence-building, new skills, and plenty of fun with our amazing JV crew 💜

Murph comes once a year. Consistency is built the other 364 days.

The Committed Club isn’t about being the fittest person in the room. It’s about showing up when you’re tired, busy, distracted, or not feeling motivated.

Congrats to everyone who made the list this month, especially our new 6-month streak milestone and those who have stacked 12 months in a row. That’s what progress looks like.

June is here. Time to reset, refocus, and get back to work.

Lock in. We’ll see you at the gym.

Gabriella Bellinger is moving on to the Semi Finals and we couldn’t be more fired up 💜🔥

Watching her earn this spot has been incredible. Every tough session, every ounce of focus and determination has led to this moment. She’s put in the work, stayed committed, and continues to raise the standard.

Now it’s time for all of us to get behind her. Over the next few weeks, let’s pack the gym with energy, encouragement, and support as she takes on the next challenge.

This month we’re also celebrating Peter Crull!

Peter has been part of DOD for about 10 months and has become such a consistent presence in our community. As an IT Infrastructure Engineer, he spends plenty of time solving problems outside the gym, but inside the gym he’s been focused on building strength, endurance, and confidence in movements that once felt completely new to him.

One of the biggest things Peter has gained through CrossFit has been structure and accountability. He’s said CrossFit helps push him to show up, stay consistent, and continue learning, especially with technical lifts like the power sn**ch.

Outside the gym, Peter enjoys exploring the NC mountains and beaches, visiting national parks, and reading. Inside the gym, he’s happiest with a bench press in the workout and least excited when ring muscle-ups appear on the board 😅

What keeps Peter coming back is the people. The coaches, the members, and the environment at DOD have made a lasting impact, and we’re thankful to have him as part of this community.

His advice for anyone nervous to start CrossFit:
“Don’t be intimidated by thinking you don’t know certain techniques or that you’re not ‘hard-core’ enough. Everyone is learning, and people are always willing to help and cheer you on.”
