Glad to see Mantle get some love the last few days. Much of the current culture downplays the past players.

Mantle was an All-time Great. He was Mike Trout before their was a Mike Trout. Even better!

Yes, he certainly had the independent action within his preswing. He also had it left handed as well.

IBM is very simple to identify. The barrel always goes from a vertical orientation into SSB (horizontal orientation) BEFORE forward hand commitment.

If the barrel only moves due to the forward action of the hands, it is a dependent swing. And does not have the benefits that IBM provides.

Andrew Czech. Independent Frontier League.

This is his 1st year with the IBM principle.

He hasn't even begun to understand the full capabilities of this technique yet. He previously just started his swing from the SSB position, much like Corbin Carroll did.

He is setting career highs in almost every hit category this year. He is also breaking multiple team records.

He is a big guy who certainly has the raw power. I fully expect him if he continues with IBM to keep challenging his personal bests as a hitter.

The name is Tony Conigliaro.

This was a random video that came across my page today. More than most of you, I still watch and learn from the past.

If you listen to the entire clip, you will hear some important facts about this hitter.

#1. He hit his 1st homerun when he was just 19 years old. It was also his first MLB hit.

#2. He just was in high school the previous year.

#3. You hear the announcer talk about the power in his swing.

If you watch closely, yes, you will see an IBM swing.

I attached his homerun numbers from fangraphs. He hit 24, 32, 28, 20, 20, 36 homeruns in his 1st six years.

An injury from being hit in the eye with a ball impacted the rest of his short career.

Is it talent that allows you to be successful or is the technique? A more difficult question that at first glance.

The "success" of a hitter is still the same today just as it was many years ago. The same can also be said about the swing.

IBM continues to prove its in-game power. 8-10 of these hitters had it in their swing.

IBM= Vertical ➡️ horizontal BEFORE forward hand commitment.

This very simple definition describes the type of barrel action needed to have IBM within your swing.

Facts are facts. 80 % of all of the sluggers who made it to the HOF had this barrel action.

Kyle Schwarber's Game winning HR today!

Although he does not have IBM anymore, he does have perfect SSB ➡️ Contact.

(He had it in college)

You can not find me a more complete, technically perfect swing arc beginning from the ssb position. Period.

Exact same technique.

You can clearly see Rickey Henderson has a better technique based on the SSB position.

The control and ex*****on of the IBM technique and principle will always be the separator in efficiency of the outcome which is the batted ball.

The transition between the Vertical component into the Horizontal component almost always begins with the forearms being slightly below parallel.

The WHY? It provides the necessary space to allow the hands to achieve the SSB position with the bat.

This movement also is used as a timing mechanism as the pitch is incoming.

Hitters with more aggressive Posture, you will notice very little movement in the orientation of the bottom arm. Just look at Rickey Henderson. I just posted on him.

Cecil Fielder and Rickey Henderson almost have the same type of posture yet the rest of their swing style is more different.

It is the tophand that mainly CONTROLS most of this preswing action that allows the barrel to go from vertical to horizontal.

Look for this low hand positioning in IBM hitters. Chances are you have never focused on this unique aspect of their position.

Rickey Henderson. An All-time great player.

IBM is a very simple technique. Its simplest definition is defined by its barrel movement. Vertical to horizontal BEFORE forward hand commitment.

This definition is always present in Independent Barrel Movement swings.

No exceptions.

No hidden insights. Everything is straightforward. It is without a doubt the best technique used to swing a bat.

The list of players who have used this principle within their swing either knowingly or unknowingly is the greatest list of hitters who have ever been.

Just a few are:

Ted Williams
Hank Aaron
Barry Bonds
Babe Ruth
Lou Gehrig
Jose Canseco
Gary Sheffield
Reggie Jackson
Josh Donaldson
Cecil Fielder & Prince Fielder
Vladimir Guerrero & Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

My next post will be a list of as many hitters as I can possibly think of that used IBM (Independent Barrel Movement) within their swing profile.
