⚾ Doubleheader Split ⚾

The Mighty Biscuits head into a 3-week bye after splitting a hard-fought doubleheader with the Blue Jays.

Game 1 belonged to Timothy Martin, who got the start on the bump and fired 5 shutout innings before handing things over to John Smith, who slammed the oven door shut for his 3rd save of the season while surviving a late 7th inning rally from the Blue Jays. Timothy Martin, Ben Cole, and Anthony Alvarez all collected 2 hits in the victory as the offense manufactured just enough runs to secure the 3–2 win.

Game 2 saw Jake McCabe pitch another great game and give the Biscuits every chance to pull off the sweep, but the offense could never fully get going in the 4–2 loss. Michael Wieringa and Vincent Bruce both collected multiple hits, while Bill Balatsos launched one deep off the left field ivy before also tossing 2 shutout innings in relief to keep the comeback hopes alive late.
Not the sweep we wanted, but plenty to build on heading into the break. Time to recharge, tighten things up, and come back cooking.

⚾ Biscuits Win! ⚾

The Mighty Biscuits take down the Smokies 10–6 and battle back to .500 (3–3) on the season after a gritty team win at Al Grosche Field.

Timothy Martin went 4 strong innings to start the day before turning things over to the bullpen. Then, with the game suddenly in danger in the 9th, he stepped back onto the mound with the bases loaded and nobody out to shut the door and earn the save.

Jake McCabe picked up the win on the mound with 3 quality innings in relief, while Bill Balatsos also pitched great out of the bullpen to help steady things late.

Michael Ruffolo and Michael Kovalenko got hot at the plate with 3 hits each, helping lead an offense that finally broke through for 10 runs for the first time this season. The game stayed tight early, but the Biscuits turned up the heat late and created enough separation to survive the late inning scare.

The defense showed flashes of greatness throughout the day despite a few hiccups along the way, and everyone in the lineup contributed to manufacturing runs in a complete team offensive effort.

The bats were cooking. Big team win. 🧈⚾

⚾ Tough One in the Oven ⚾

The Mighty Biscuits drop both to the Ravens, falling 8–2 in Game 1 and 6–4 in 10 innings in Game 2.

Game 1 got away from us early. We played sloppy, fell behind 8–0, and couldn’t recover after giving the Ravens extra opportunities. Jordan Golz was the spark offensively, finishing with 3 hits, a run scored, an RBI, and 2 stolen bases, but the offense couldn’t rally behind him.

Game 2 was a different story. Jake McCabe was an absolute dog on the mound, grinding through 9 tough innings and keeping us in control for most of the day. Golz stayed hot with 2 more hits, while Vince Bruce collected 3 hits and 3 RBIs to lead the charge offensively. Christian Avis also put together a strong day at the plate with 3 hits, including a double, but we couldn’t capitalize enough throughout the lineup after carrying a 4–1 lead into the 7th. Two costly defensive errors opened the door for the Ravens to tie it before they eventually took it in the 10th.

Tough way to end the day after battling hard in Game 2, but there’s still plenty of baseball left. Back to work.

Opening Day didn’t go our way—today is our chance to answer. Time to bring the heat and keep things in the oven as we stay locked in, stay buttery, and get to work with two games on the schedule at Heritage Park, 3 PM & 6 PM.

⚾ Doubleheader Sweep — Fish Fileted ⚾

The Mighty Biscuits bounce back and take both from the Marlins, 2–1 and 7–5.

Bill Balatsos picked up the win in Game 1, Timothy Martin followed with the win in Game 2—and John “2 Saves” Smith shut the door in both games.

Defense was stellar all day—Jordo Golz made highlight-reel plays look routine, and Balatsos cut down a runner at the plate from center field.

At the plate, Vincent Bruce drove in 4 RBIs and delivered the go-ahead hit in both games, stepping up when it mattered most. Golz was a menace as well, dropping down a couple bunt hits and creating pressure all day. Balatsos added an inside-the-park home run in Game 2 to help seal it.

Huge team response after a tough Opening Day. Back to work.

⚾ Fresh Out the Oven ⚾

Opening Day didn’t go our way, as the Mighty Biscuits fell 0–2 to the Ravens in a rematch of last year’s semifinal. The defense stayed buttery and the pitching was cooking all game, with Jake McCabe and John Smith dealing on the mound.

Ben Cole got us started with a walk and the first Biscuits hit of the season—but we couldn’t cash in,
as Ravens pitching shut us down. Credit to them.

On defense, Steven “Swaggy P” Pineda was locked in at second, Dominic MacPherson was a magnet at third, and Michael “Squatch” Wieringa made some monster scoops at first.

The bats will rise. Back to work. We’re just getting warmed up.

Appreciate everyone who came out and supported—Butter up! 🧈⚾
