The Waukegan Municipal Beach features one mile of sand along with some of the only remaining natural dunes in the area. Recreational activities include swimming, sunbathing, picnicking, and sand volleyball. Also, open sand area gives the opportunity to play beach soccer, beach football, and other sports and activities. There are no lifeguards on duty at this facility and swimming should be done so at your own risk.

We had a great time with the community as we wrapped up the inaugural Food Truck Friday season this past Friday at Waukegan Municipal Beach.

Families came out to enjoy food from local food trucks, the beautiful weather, and live music from Enlace de Nuevo León. The crowd even kept dancing right up until the end of the night.

It was a great first season for Food Truck Fridays, and we’re already looking forward to adding more dates next year! Thank you to Low-reen's Live Blues, Urban Soul, Billy Garner, and Enlace de Nuevo León for bringing more live music to the beach throughout our first Food Truck Friday season.

And the beach season isn’t over yet. Follow the Waukegan Municipal Beach page for upcoming events and activities happening over the next month as we wrap up the season.

Join the Lake Plain Coalition this Friday, September 4, from 2PM-4PM for a hands-on restoration workday at the Waukegan Dunes and help protect one of Waukegan’s most unique natural spaces.

No experience is necessary. Volunteers will learn about native plants and wildlife, restoration techniques, and the history of this important coastal habitat while helping with restoration efforts.

Participants will meet at the Waukegan Dunes at Waukegan Municipal Beach, 540 to 562 E. Sea Horse Drive. Children ages 10 and older are welcome with an adult.

Come out, lend a hand, and learn more about this important natural area.

It’s been a great season of free Yoga at the Beach, presented by the Waukegan Park District and the City of Waukegan.

Every Saturday since June, Marlene has been leading participants through a relaxing start to their weekend right here at Waukegan Municipal Beach.

Haven’t joined us yet? There are four more opportunities to enjoy Yoga at the Beach this September:

• Saturday, September 26

Yoga takes place from 8AM to 9AM at the Stiner Pavilion. Bring your own mat and enjoy a peaceful morning by the lake.

Tonight’s Navy Band Great Lakes concert at Stiner Pavilion has been canceled due to weather.

While we’re disappointed to close out the season this way, we’re grateful to everyone who joined us for the Free Concerts at Stiner Pavilion this summer and helped make it our biggest season of free concerts at the Waukegan Municipal Beach.

Thank you for spending your summer evenings with us. We look forward to bringing free concerts back to Stiner Pavilion in June 2027!

Storms could bring 75+ mph winds and torrential rainfall that may cause flash flooding.
