BEVIER IS NOT DEAD.
Allow me to clarify some issues:
Last Summer, the Waukegan Park District asked me (Jim Klem) to redesign part of the Henry Pfau Callahan DGC at Bevier Park.
The six holes across the street are gone and the new Lake County Forest Preserve Bike Path eliminated five of the holes. With assistance from several local players, I designed a 12-hole course.
Ten of the holes are playable, although no signage has been made yet. The WPD does not want too much traffic on it until the grand re-opening and rededication in Spring. All signage will be installed as it is made by the WPD this Winter/Spring. I am designing a big new map at the course, previews of which I have posted on FB.
Sometime next year, we will also add the last two holes, going around the ball diamond. 65 trees are to be planted on the old soccer field, which we will be able to use in our final design.
Several of us (Rob, Ryan, Seth, and a few others) have been putting in long hours the past few months, creating long wooded holes - something new for Bevier. The WPD has been very accommodating and communicative. The unfortunate removal of the holes across the street was a political thing and I don't think the LCFP gave the WPD much say-so in the matter.
The vandalism has been there for months. The WPD says they will clean what they can in the Spring. Ten baskets are in the ground and the temporary layout is playable (and fairly easy to follow the flow w/o signage). I am also working on getting some basket upgrades over the next 3 years.
Thank you for your patience. Although the Henry Pfau Callahan DGC at Bevier Park has seen better days, better days are yet to come. Look for an unsanctioned event in early Spring, along with a Grand re-Opening.
