July’s Member of the Month:
Meet Pat Muetz
Pat has been a long time member of HRCF since 2019. I’m sure many of you have seen Pat at the gym, but let’s take a moment to actually get to know him a little. Pat is originally from Beloit, WI. He attended UW-Whitewater which is where he met Coach January. They married in 2005 and now have 2 daughters, Lily and Ruby. Lily will start at University of Purdue next month and Ruby will be a junior at Warren. The girls are Pat’s everything. Pat and the girls can be found boating and jet skiing. He has a bit of a jet ski obsession and is down to 5 jet skis after recently being “forced” to sell one by January – “at least that’s what I tell people.”
Pat holds undergrad and graduate degrees in public administration and works in local government management. He’s been with the Village of Gurnee since 2004, working his way up to Village Administrator in 2012 (the equivalent to a CEO in the private section). As Administrator he is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Village. Multiple leadership positions report directly to Pat and he reports to the Mayor and Village Board.
Pat’s dry sense of humor many times catches people off-guard, it’s hard to tell whether he is being serious or not (January will tell you 99% of the time he’s not serious). Pat also is a cat guy who may or may not refer to himself as “cat master” at home.
At this point of his life, Pat will tell you “showing up and keeping at it is his greatest accomplishment; and an occasional bar muscle up.” Pushing 50 years old, Pat has transitioned from worrying about new PRs to just maintaining his fitness level. He continues to show up at HomeRoots because “January makes him” or to “socialize”, which is ironic because most of the time he can be found in “his corner” maintaining “personal space.”
“HRCF has been the most enjoyable gym he’s been a member of. It’s diverse membership in terms of ability, experience and age, which speaks volumes to attentiveness of coaches.”
We are so thankful for all that Pat does for this gym and the constant consistency he has for showing up each day!
