The biggest mistake we see people make when they first try HYROX?
Treating it like a sprint. ❌
Whether it’s the opening 1km run, the very first meter of the sled push, or those initial burpee broad jumps, the temptation is always to attack them with everything you’ve got.
But HYROX is a game of management. If you redline in the first 15 minutes, the remaining 45+ are going to feel twice as long.
Here are the three biggest pacing mistakes to avoid:
1️⃣ Sprinting the first run. Your adrenaline will be pumping, but your first kilometer should actually feel a bit conservative. Save that energy for the stations ahead.
2️⃣ Rushing the transitions. Flying into a station when your heart rate is at 180 bpm makes the movement harder than it needs to be. Take 5–10 seconds to catch your breath, reset, and then execute.
3️⃣ Not having a plan for the reps. Going unbroken on wall balls or lunges until failure sounds tough, but strategic, planned breaks will actually get you to the finish line faster and with less burnout.
In our classes, we don't just teach you how to do the movements. We teach you how to pace them, how to breathe through them, and how to finish just as strong as you started.
