After placing 2nd in Exception class last may at Watkins Glen International raceway. The Campbells's Soup Car was invited back to the Chump Car World Series Chumpionship. Nov. 1st / 2nd
Saturday Nov. 1st - We did not get off to a good start. Scott Campbell began his first ever Watkins Glen event in less than optimal conditions. With poring down rain Scott realized quickly that something was not right with the brakes. The car was immediately brought back in for service. After 30 minutes of repair and 10 laps down Joe McGoldrick took over to try to keep on pace while the other team members ran out to purchase new rotors. Back in the drivers seat Scott Campbell took over, but with conditions not improving (rain ,fog, wind) lap times for the entire field were still averaging around the 3:00 mark. Next to drive was Vincent Mignogna. By this time the rain had let up and track conditions ,though still wet, were finally starting to improve. Impressively Vince was able to run the car to the finish placing us in 4th in class for the day.
Sunday Nov 2nd. It was cold. Snow showers, wind , ice ,rain the night before delayed the start for 1 hour. By the start of the race the track was almost completely dry. Shawn Corrigan took the wheel for his second ever race at the Glen. Shawn was on fire, improving his best lap times by 10 seconds that day. Next up Joe McGoldrick. by this time Soup car was in third position and climbing. Over the next 2 hours Joe was able to pass the lead car putting us in 1st place by two laps. With an hour and a half left in the race....We broke. The lower rear control arm snapped at turn 5. I would best describe the feeling of the car as like driving on oil. We were done for the day but were far enough ahead to still pull off a respectable third in class.
