Pine Creek - Exceptional trout fishing exists all along the 87 mile length of Pine Creek between mid-March and June. However much of Pine becomes largely a small-mouth bass stream during the warmer summer months. Luckily, fly anglers can enjoy productive trout fishing year-round in the 2.8 mile no-kill section known as "The Stretch" In addition to the PFBC stocking, the Brown Trout Club stocks t

his section up to five times each year with beautiful German Brown Trout that range between 15-22 inches long.

Had a great day on yesterday. Quite a bit of insect activity, mainly Blue Quills but also a couple Hendricksons. Hot flies were Pheasant Tail and Hare’s Ear Nymph variations. Water is high but looking good!

Pine Creek is high but has great color in the sections above Galeton. Just listen to the sound of that water!

Two of my favorite sounds in nature…spring peepers and a trout stream.

Looking forward to seeing if there are any fish ready to eat a fly. If you were fishing this, where would your first cast be?

Haven’t fished Big much lately, but I sure have had a blast on some of the small Class A streams! So many opportunities to get out and enjoy all this region has to offer. Hope you’re having fun!

Good luck to everyone fishing this weekend! Water is up but not unfishable. When water is higher than usual, it’s amazing how fish will move into the shallower water on bigger water like Pine. No need to wade belly-deep in high, swift water to reach the spots you usually fish. Many times, trout will move to the edges and hug the banks. Fish that pocket water and seams close to shore and I’ll bet you’ll have a good day!

Good luck and have fun this weekend!

One of the articles in the current issue of Dark Skies Fly Fishing features small stream fishing in north central PA. It’s a good read. Hope you’ll consider subscribing to this locally-owned and operated publication.

For a nice-sized fish, this stocked rainbow sure was a jumper!

The morning started off slow because of the cold, but once the sun hit the water, things picked up pretty good. Sure was nice to be on the water, though!

Little Pine Creek in the Delayed Harvest section looks awesome! Of course, I had to fish while I was there. More about that later:)

Great to see Little Pine Creek flowing again. Special thanks to Bobby Rishel for sending this video he took yesterday while riding the rail trail.

So how thick were some of those ice slabs in yesterday’s video from Pine Creek above Waterville? They were “this thick!” The video didn’t do it justice. It was a deep freeze this winter.
