Playing the Newport Country Club course can be a challenge in the best weather conditions, but today's conditions proved most difficult. With tempatures in the 40s and winds sustained at 15 to 20 mph, most golfers participating in the Andover Invitational found the going particularly tough. Along with the weather conditions, the putting greens were in excellent early season condition. With the greens firm and fast, one had to be very precise to putt well today.
Taft's golfers were challenged, but co-captain JP Raftery was more then up to the task. Playing excellent golf, JP's 78 was good enough for 3rd place in the individual competition. Exeter's #1 golfer, Daulet Tulevbayev, a freshman from Kazakhstan, earned medalist honors with a 2-under par 70. Exeter won the team competition by 20 strokes, posting a set of 4 solid scores.
With our Founders' League Quad Match coming up Wednesday at Hotchkiss, we will get back on the course and keep working to fine tune our games.
