WATERLOO, Iowa — The beach at George Wyth State Park is closed for the 2026 season.

Park Manager Lori Eberhard said a construction project at the park and the inability to secure an operator for beach concessions led to the closing. The entire beach area is unavailable, including swimming and other beach activities.

The rest of George Wyth State Park remains open. The campground, picnic areas and bike trails are all accessible.

The park is searching for a concessionaire with plans to reopen the beach and concession operations in 2027. Eberhard encourages people wanting to enjoy beach activities this summer to visit iowadnr.gov/stateparks to find other state parks in the region with beach and lake access.
