Yahi Bowmen Of Modesto Family oriented archery club founded in 1954 dedicated to the sport of archery. Welcome to Yahi Bowmen Archery Club.

Yahi Bowmen is a family oriented club that was established in 1954 and has held a charter since January 1955. We are a nonprofit California corporation with affiliations to the National Field Archery Association (NFAA) and California Bow Hunters (CBH). Our Club strongly promotes the sport of Archery, including shooting and bowhunting, among families. We encourage youth participation and are fortun

ate to have pee-wee members who range in age from 3 to 5 years old. We also have several state champion shooters in our organization. We hope to fill the future needs of archery by involving as much of the youth as we can. Yahi holds meetings monthly, and during the summer - weekly, shoots that are open to the public. Members of other clubs and organizations, as well as the general public, are welcome as we always look forward to guests. If you have never been out to our range it is located at Modesto reservoir. The range is located next to the lake inlet on the East side of the Lake.

I found this a very interesting podcast on “The Push Archery” pod cast. It is a Traditional Archery podcast, however if you are curious about The Yahi Tribw of California Indians which our clubs name is derived from you will find this fascinating. It touches on the dark side of California history, Gold Rush, Pope, Young and Compton mean that are associated with the founding of Archery as we know it. Also about a man called Ishi the last so called wild Indian and his influence on the afore mentioned men and civilization.
Below is a brief description of the episode.

In this History Of The Bow Series episode we are covering the life of the last Yahi Native American - Ishi. We discuss the struggles of the Yahi Indians, how Ishi was discovered, becoming a world renowned celebrity and how he influenced and brought together the great pioneers of our sport; Saxton Pope, Art Young and Chief Compton.
