This is old growth (approx. 150yr old) gallery grade "curly" Hawaiian Koa wood, (which can no longer be harvested!) for the barrel, and once again for the tonal properties, an African blackwood tone board. This call is tuned for open water/big bodies of water hunting. This call is destined for Washington state near the Columbia and Snake rivers. I was able to get a nice picture of the triple reed design also that affords a range of operation from the low register ring of a quiet "work the birds in from less than 30yds", to a 2nd register highball call for when they are just specs in the sky. I particularly like the chatoyance (French word for the shimmer or hologram effect) that this wood has especially when out in natural sunlight. The halogen lighting that I use above my work area picks up a bit of this quality but far from the effect that natural sunlight provides. I will also be adding a video with sound of me tuning the call and doing some basic calls, (perhaps I should put my call up against a "big name" brand! :) I'm not sure if the sound quality will come through on a cell phone video, but I'll be giving it an honest try come tomorrow evening.
Write me and let me know what you think!
