Nutrition Labels & Macros!
Â
So, how many of you struggle to understand how to
read a food label?
Â
Yeah, it can very pretty confusing to say the least!🤔
Â
So lets break this down for you my friends.
Â
Starting from the top, you have the serving size which
can be labeled in oz, grams, or even cups.
Â
The label will also tell you how many servings are in
the package at the top.
Â
Next up, you can see that the label shows you how many
total calories are in a serving.
Â
This total calorie number comes from the macronutrients.
Â
The macronutrients listed are fats, carbohydrates, and proteins.
Â
1g Fat= 9 calories
1g Carbs= 4 calories
1g Protien= 4 calories
Â
The label itself shows the amount in grams of each of these macronutrients
there are. These should in theory add up to give you the total calorie number.
Â
Sometimes it doesnt quite add up correctly, this is due to the fact
that labels can be up to 20% wrong.
Â
Crazy right!?🤯
Â
Well have no fear, as long as you are consistent, and use the same calories for the foods
you eat when logging, you'll be fine.
Â
As we work our way down the label you'll see fiber listed as well as other nutrients, vitamins, and minerals.
Â
The label itself also shows the daily value each thing has. I personally do not use this metric when tracking
as I find it is NOT useful.
