We had another great trip to Tennessee this past weekend to participate in the USEWF Annual Cecil Patterson Memorial Tournament. We are a small group but our students always represent the club well. Josh was able to bring home third place in Kata and Kumite as a new brown belt in his age bracket and Tyus placed first in Kata and third in Kumite as a white belt in his age bracket. Congratulations to each!

Each time we travel to Tennessee to participate in a federation event it never ceases to amaze me how much I learn and how fortunate I feel to be part of something this special. Thank you to each and every one that contributed their time and resources to make the tournament possible.

This past week Midwest Wado Ryu was honored with two promotions from the United States Eastern Wado Ryu Federation. The first was a promotion to Yon-Dan (Fourth Degree Black Belt) for Cody Lairmore (center in photo). Cody came to our club in 2004 and we have had the good fortune to watch him grow over the years into a dedicated husband, father and martial artist. Well done Cody!

The second is a promotion to Nana-Dan (Seventh Degree Black Belt) of Mr. Dale Lairmore (right in photo), our leading member. Mr. Lairmore started his Wado-Ryu journey in 1976 and has lead the club for over thirty years. His proficiency in Wado Ryu, dedication to the USEWF and dedication to the club set an example for each of us to emulate.

Please join us in congratulating each for their accomplishments!

We don't post on Facebook often but I thought that this past weekend could't go without some public acknowledgement. Saturday, August 14th 2021 our club participated in the USEWF C. T. Patterson Memorial Tournament in Nashville, Tn. The tournament not only gives our students the opportunity to test their skills but offers each of us the opportunity to greet old friends, make new friends, to learn and to grow.

I couldn't make this post without thanking the people that made the tournament possible. We offer our sincerest thanks to Mr. John Patterson, the USEWF Board of Directors, Mrs. Jean Zimmerman, Mr. and Mrs. Fall and all of the others that volunteered their time, expertise and resources to officiate, set-up and operate the tournament. In addition, I have to thank our club parents and grand parents for investing the time and resources to make the trip possible for their youth, thank you!

On to the hardware count. Our students and club members made us proud this past weekend. We are a small club participating against schools considerably larger than us, some with hundreds of students and our students and club members were able to come home with a few trophies in their divisions; AJ brought home 2nd in Kata and Kumite, Taylor brought home 2nd in Kumite, Josh brought home 1st in Kata and Kumite. Our extended club members, Marlon from Chicago and Alexander from Florida made us proud to have them as well. Marlon took home third in both the open division kumite and kumite for his age bracket for black belts. Alexander took home 1st place in kata and 2nd place in kumite for his black belt division and 2nd place in the open division kumite. We couldn't be more proud of each of them.

In addition to the club success at the tournament, Mr. Lairmore was inducted into the U.S. Eastern Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Federation Hall of Fame this past weekend for his dedication to the martial arts, the USEWF and the example of excellence in the martial arts he sets for all to follow. Well deserved Mr. Lairmore.

I am humbled and proud to be part of this group.
