Spalted maple, osage orange/walnut, and cherry. The spalted maple blank was the last one I turned two years ago. I messed it. I kept the blank and today I reused it and reshaped it.

Osage orange. Need I say more. Then I gouged the s**t out of the pot. I threw it in the trash, only to pull it back out to see if I could save it. I did. We shall see how it works out. In the words of the late Bob Ross..."There are only happy little accidents"

It's been 2 years since I have had the chance to turn some pot calls. Other priorities took precedence. I have alot of plans for my calls in the future. Here's a few I've been working on. Osage orange/walnut, walnut/cherry, one I cant divulge yet, osage orange, maple, and a maple/walnut. I did some tweaking internally. I hope it works out.

Today was a great and not so great day in the woods. For years I have been trying to connect with a bird on my in-laws property behind their house and could never seem to call one in. Today, I spent four hours working a bird, only to rush the shot and watch him fly away. Though I am disappointed, I have to say that I'm starting to get this figured out. Even better that my calling has drastically improved and knowing what to do and when to do it helps. But it's not all about busting beaks. It's about that time spent in the woods, clearing the mind. I had three visitors also. All three were bucks. The first one (not pictured) may be a contender this fall during bow season. Tomorrow is the last day here in Missouri. I shall see if I can get it done..

It's been a long time coming. Seven years to be exact. Seven years since I got my first bird with the help of a friend and Marine brother. And five years ago I started working on making and designing my own calls out of my woodshop. Over those five years I've made some good ones, and not so good calls. I've had people wanting to buy one of my calls but I always put them off because I didn't feel they were worthy. This year though has been different. I sold my first pot call to a coworker. And now I have other people wanting to buy them. I am grateful. Today was the pinnacle. I used one of my newest designed calls to call in this gobbler. The woods were silent all morning. He gobbled once off in the distance. I hit him once with my Lynch box call (it was windy and I knew that box would really carry). He showed up quiet as a mouse 100 yards out in the woods, and I used my newest call to bring him in gun range. Osage orange, glass over glass.
