What a weekend! Been fishing the CLSO series since it began in 2014, and this weekend in the 3rd leg of the South division it all came together for us to finally get a win! We have been fishing extremely hard all season, catching bait, pre fishing, trying to do all of the right things, but as all of the fisherman know, any fish, and certainly big fish have been hard to come by this year. This weekend was no different. We fished Friday before the tournament and never had a king bite all day. Lost as to where to fish on Saturday we went to spot there have been a few fish caught recently east of frying pan shoals. Our morning started extremely slow with a few bites from amberjacks and barracudas. We had just broke off an amberjack around 12:00 when we got our first king bite on a single pogy fished on the medium rig. The fish made a couple good runs and carried us just offshore of the pack of boats where we were able to get a gaff in the fish after about a 12-15 minute fight. We had a few looks at the fish before we were able to gaff it, really anxious few minutes there with a big fish circling deep with plenty of barracudas around..We knew it was a good fish, really long and skinny, measuring 54” x 19.5”. We continued fishing, looking for a fish to go with it in the agg division but wasn’t able to land another one. Still no idea this would go on to be the winning fish, we packed it in around 2:30 and cruised on to Southport to the scales where it did hold on to win! Really thankful and extremely blessed to be able to compete at this sport we love against the best king mackerel fisherman in the world. Congratulations to for their 2nd place finish and everyone else on the leaderboard! Big thanks to everyone from for making this event what it is for the fisherman. We have one week off and we will kick off the North division in Morehead City.
