🖤 Capital Kiz Official Response Statement
With care and respect for our community
In response to the recent public post by Nii, I’d like to address a few important points with transparency and compassion.
First, I want to thank Nii for being our inaugural artist and for supporting the grand opening of Capital Kiz. His early contributions helped shape the foundation of what we’re continuing to build today. While our paths may be diverging, I still hold appreciation for your role in the growth of this community.
If there are lingering concerns or grievances, I encourage Nii to bring them to me directly so we can close out this chapter in a respectful and professional manner. I believe open, honest communication creates space for clarity—especially in a community as passionate and connected as ours.
To respond to a few general points, throughout our collaboration, we discussed transitioning into separate business directions as we both had new goals and visions. We also spoke about transitioning Tuesday and Wednesday classes to new instructors after Nii ended the collaboration via text this past Friday.
These changes were part of a shared understanding, and we had even planned future collaborations—including the upcoming and highly anticipated KiZouk collaboration with Chynna Golding, Founder of HER Zouk Society and a respected local organizer in DC as well as the Kiz Lab series. That foundation of mutual agreement shaped the path forward.
It’s important to clarify that The Kiz Lab was not involved in any decisions related to this transition. Ini and Jessica Marie were invited as guest instructors to support consistency during this time of change. They brought professionalism, warmth, and deep respect to the space. In fact, they were excited about Nii and Rocio attending class as special guests. Their intentions were rooted in unity, not division.
Capital Kiz will continue to create spaces that are community-centered and grounded in collaboration, consistency, and care. We’re proud of the journey so far and excited for what’s to come. Thank you to everyone who continues to support the mission, the movement, and one another.
From Nii to The Kiz Lab —and many more to come—Capital Kiz has always been about cultivating a platform where instructors, artists, and DJs can shine. Our goal is to reflect the richness and talent of the community we serve and to provide consistent, high-quality opportunities for dancers to grow, connect, and explore their love for dance.
With gratitude,
Mara
