Hello everyone!
I hope summer has been a blast - full of enjoyably spent days, leisure and time shared with friends and family! I'll keep this relatively brief but I do want to share some news and confirm class scheduling. Especially for you parents trying to line up those afternoon activities as the academic school season begins. At the end of this newsletter, I'll ask for confirmations of re-enrollment in the youth programming so please read through.
SUMMER TOURNAMENT RESULTS
This year, DragonGateDC participated in two of the major east coast Kung Fu and Tai Chi tournaments - the ICMAC Championships in Orlando, FL and the KUOSHU International Championships in Hunt Valley, MD.
ICMAC Championships
In Orlando, Parker and Carter King competed in both empty hand form and weapons form. Parker won a gold medal in the advanced boys 11-13 year old weapons form performing Shaolin straight sword and placed fourth in empty hand. Carter won a silver medal with his Shaolin broadsword and a bronze medal in empty hand in the beginners boys 9 and under division.
Sifu Alex King was again a scoring judge for the internal styles and Tai Chi forms division. He also performed a Bagua Zhang routine at the evening Master's Ceremony. It was great fun at a great venue and DragonGateDC looks forward to returning next year where Sifu Alex King will be inducted into the ICMAC Hall of Fame.
KUOSHU Championships
DragonGateDC was well represented at the KUOSHU championships this year with 15 youth competitors and one adult competitor. The following youth competitors did an amazing job, most of whom competing in their first ever tournament, showed courage and tenacity as they demonstrated their hard earned skills in Kung Fu! Many received rave reviews and constructive feedback from other competitors, judges and officials. A few also placed in medal positions on their very first foray into competitive Kung Fu forms demonstrations! Special acknowledgement to Nazir, who was invited up to the big stage to perform his spear routine at the closing ceremony, after having won Gold medals in both empty hand and weapons in the advanced boys 15-17yo division!
Congratulations to all of you!!!
FALL SCHEDULING AND FEES FOR YOUTH CLASSES
All youth classes will remain on the same schedule as before our August summer break. Your child will remain with their Dragon group and meet at the same day and time. Some students will be invited to "train up" with other groups of higher age and skill level affording them an opportunity to practice in a class setting twice per week. You will be notified in an independent email if your youth will be invited to participate in this option.
There is a slight change in dues for some of the enrolled youth students. At the beginning of this year the tuition cost for all classes that meet once per week was raised slightly to $120 for all new incoming students. Previously enrolled students continued at the prior weekly class rate. Beginning in September, the fee for ALL classes that meet ONCE PER WEEK will be set to $120/month. The fee for students who attend class twice per week remains unchanged at $140/month.
As always, DragonGateDC never turns away a motivated student because of financial difficulties. Reduced rates are available upon request if needed.
RE-ENROLLMENT CONFIRMATION!!!
Parents, if you intend to have your child continue in classes at the start of September, please send me the briefest of emails to confirm. There is a waiting list developing for some of the classes, particularly the younger ages, and I want to make sure I have your child's spot reserved while respecting a max capacity enrollment size for each class.
Classes resume following Labor Day on Tuesday, September 6th. I can't wait to get back into action with your great kids!
Best always,
Sifu Alex King
