Dear FIT Community,
As the Mayor declares a state of emergency, schools close in the District, and experts recommend social distancing and extreme preventative measures in response to the national COVID-19 pandemic, we are responding with great care and effort at FIT.
We are fully aware of how serious the threat of the spread of this disease is. Like many others, we are mindfully washing our hands with soap and water, using Purell, mopping our floors multiple times per day, and wiping and spraying equipment excessively.
While we are currently maintaining regular operations, our team is fully prepared to swiftly adapt as needed. We will continue to promote health and wellness and help you in your pursuit of your health and wellness goals.
Growing up in a family restaurant (in Pennsylvania which has some of the strictest Board of Health regulations in the country), I am tapping into that vast experience of preparing for health inspections, to make sure to do everything we can to keep a safe and sanitary space.
I will over react rather than under react. We are spraying and wiping repeatedly in the gym regardless if a machine or tool has been used recently or not. We are focused on making sure we are cleaning everything, not just obvious surfaces. We are disinfecting handles, barbells, machine pins, light switches, buttons, ropes, dumbbells, faucet handles, foam rollers, medicine balls, external door handles or railings, and other non obvious items/surfaces.
We are increasing the number of times per day that we disinfect all surfaces and asking any trainer with symptoms to refrain from coming to work. We are requiring trainers to wash their hands vigorously after every session and anytime they are arriving or returning to the gym from somewhere else.
We are asking anyone who has attended a school, office, building, church or other business and community organizations that have closed due to a potential exposure/outbreak of this virus that you please stay home until that building is reopened or you have a cleared health record from your physician.
Remember stay safe, use common sense practices and stay informed by visiting the Center For Disease control website at www.cdc.gov .
Happy health and fitness from FIT
Sincerely,
Mike Everts,
