📚🐴 Discover the Power of Reading Through Horses This Summer with MET at Rock Creek Park Horse Center! 🐴📚

Reading doesn't have to happen behind a desk.

Our Horse Powered Reading Program is an innovative, equine-assisted literacy experience that combines reading development with hands-on, experiential learning in a fun and engaging environment.

Through a series of unmounted, hands-on activities, participants work alongside horses to bring reading concepts to life. Rather than simply reading about ideas, students experience them—making skills like comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, and critical thinking more meaningful and easier to understand.

Horses provide immediate, non-judgmental feedback, creating a unique learning environment that helps participants build confidence, focus, communication skills, and a stronger connection to the learning process. For many students, it's a transformative experience that makes reading feel less like a task and more like an adventure.

Throughout the week, participants will:

📖 Strengthen reading skills including phonemic awareness, decoding, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension

🐴 Learn through engaging, unmounted activities with our equine partners

About Peter Leone

🏅 Olympic Silver Medalist

Peter Leone is an internationally respected Grand Prix rider, trainer, broadcaster, and author who represented the United States Equestrian Team for more than three decades. Throughout his remarkable career, he has competed and placed in six FEI World Cup Finals and has ridden at the highest levels of international show jumping. Today, he is recognized as one of the sport’s premier educators, helping riders achieve success from the junior ranks through top-level competition.
