Did you notice this beautifully restored third-generation IROC pace car at the Freedom 250?

It was driven by Mark Reuss, President of General Motors.

Chassis BP 7839 is a genuine piece of IROC history. The silver Camaro was driven by Formula 1 champion John Watson, who led four laps at Riverside in 1979, and later saw action with Peter Gregg. Rusty Wallace and Dave Marcis also tested the car during its racing career.

The original concept of IROC was simple: bring the best drivers from different racing disciplines together, put them in equally prepared cars, and see who comes out on top.

Ray shares what excited him about the series—and why it still resonates with racing fans today.

Several chapters of racing history.

This yellow #2 IROC Camaro started its racing life with a win. Al Unser Sr. drove it to victory in its debut at Michigan in 1977.

On October 14, 1978, Niki Lauda climbed behind the wheel at Riverside International Raceway for what would become his first and only IROC start. It then became the black #7.

Its racing career didn’t end there. After IROC, the Camaro competed in Trans-Am and SCCA regional events. In 1981, George Follmer drove it to a Trans-Am win at Charlotte, although a controversial penalty for jumping the final restart dropped the Cooke-Woods Racing Camaro to fourth in the official results.

Today, the car has been restored to its yellow #2 IROC trim, preserving a history that connects Al Unser Sr., Niki Lauda, George Follmer, and several different chapters of American road racing.

The Intimidator knew how to win in IROC.

Dale Earnhardt collected 11 victories in 59 starts and won four IROC championships in 1990, 1995, 1999 and 2000.

This third-generation Camaro was one of the first IROC cars he drove. It helped build that legacy. Chassis BP 8424 is now preserved by

More than 50 years of stories in the IROC paddock.

It was an honor to have Jay Signore with us in Washington, D.C. From the early days of IROC through its final season, Jay helped shape the series and its pursuit of putting the best drivers in equally prepared cars.

A legendary mechanic, longtime President of IROC and Team Penske Hall of Famer, it was great to see Jay holding court with our drivers, as pictured, and catching up with many of the original IROC crew members that helped us throughout the weekend.
