🚨 BREAKING: THE GAME IS CHANGING 🚨
Monday night the U.S. Senate passed the Protect College Sports Act, 77-22. It’s one of the biggest shifts in college athletics since NIL began.
Here’s what it means for our athletes and families 👇🏾
💰 THE CAP IS ON SCHOOLS, NOT PLAYERS
There’s no limit on what one athlete can earn. The cap is on what a school can spend:
* About $21M in base revenue share
* Up to $22.5M more to keep current players
* Up to $5M more for women’s & Olympic sports = roughly $48M per school
🤝 NIL IS HERE TO STAY
Third-party NIL deals are still allowed, but they have to be real and match your market value. No more fake “NIL” used to recruit players. Money connected to a school counts toward its cap.
🔄 TRANSFERS
* 1 free transfer in undergrad
* 1 more in grad school
⏳ ELIGIBILITY
5 seasons to play, and you can’t play past age 24.
📋 ACCOUNTABILITY
* Every deal over $600 gets reported
* Agents can charge no more than 5%, need a written contract and must register with the state
* One national rulebook replaces the patchwork of state NIL laws
⚠️ IT’S NOT LAW YET
The bill goes to the House next, and a vote isn’t expected until after the midterms. If it doesn’t pass before this Congress ends on Jan 3, it has to start over.
The kids in our gyms today are the college athletes this bill will cover. Families, now is the time to get educated.
Know your value. Know your contract. Know your options. 🔒
